Position: VMWare Engineer

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Job Description:

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

• Plans and implements service request work. Works under broad direction. Work is often self-initiated. Is fully accountable for meeting allocated technical objectives.
• Investigates and resolves complex problems requiring an understanding of the relationship between own specialism and wider customer /organizational requirements.
• Performs an extensive range of complex technical or professional work activities. Undertakes work which requires the application of fundamental IT principles in a wide and often unpredictable range of contexts.
• Maintains an awareness of developments in the industry. Takes initiative to keep skills up to date.
• Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels.
• Maintains support procedures, identifies issues, and resolves problems relating to applications and infrastructure.
• Ability to develop and foster collaborative relationships.
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge or skills in converged or hyper-converged environment.
• Knowledge or skills in IT DevOps CI/CD pipeline
• Knowledge or skills in Agile Software Development
• Knowledge or skills in Software Defined Networking (SDN) VMware NSX

Certifications/Licenses:

VMware Certified Professional (VCP5 or VCP6) is preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain hybrid virtualization environments for innovation, development, test and production uses.
• Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate risk and use an analytical and systematic approach to complex problem solving.
• Ability to communicate effectively, formally and informally, orally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to assist in the evaluation and testing of new virtualization platforms, develop tools for the automation of platforms, interface with vendors in support of multiple simultaneous proofs-of-concept, and help define the virtualization strategy for the organization.
• Ability to rapidly absorb and understand relevance of new technical information to the business, and demonstrate creativity and innovation in applying solutions.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership within team and facilitate collaboration between stakeholders.
• Ability to prepare and maintain operational documentation and standards.
• Ability to analyze requirements and offer options for continuous improvements. Ability to debug complex issues with virtualization, hardware and software infrastructure.
• Demonstrated expertise with VMWare hypervisor and associated management platforms (VRealize Automation, Orchestrator, Operations, Business, Cloud)
• Proven ability to script with Powershell and Javascript for task automation is a must.
• Experience with alternate Hypervisor platforms (Hyper-V, KVM, RHEV)
• Knowledge of multiple Operating Systems (Linux - RHEL 6/7, Windows 2008, 2012, 2016).
• Knowledge of multiple database systems software (Oracle, SQL)
• Knowledge of enterprise storage solutions (EMC, NetApp)
• Knowledge of the wide range of enterprise networking solutions using Cisco infrastructure.
• Understanding of software provisioning and configuration tools Ansible, Puppet, Chef
• Understanding of integrating Linux Containers (e.g. Docker) with virtualization technologies
• Fluent in networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN), troubleshooting
• Strong knowledge of resource and system optimization Linux server and Microsoft Windows
• Prior involvement designing replication and disaster recovery
• Knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS/iSCSI) to include EMC, NetApp and fibre networks
• Knowledge of basic cloud infrastructure integration (AWS, Azure, etc.)
