Primary Responsibilities and Opportunities

The Graphic Designer/Illustrator will be responsible for creating high-quality artwork for our digital and print media publications. The Designer will be responsible for working closely with our CEO/COO and Operational Staff to develop inspiring artwork that will attract our target audience. She or he will be responsible for formulating concepts, rendering draft illustrations from written words, models, sketched ideas, and from their own imagination. The Associate will take part in the creation of new marketing campaigns, brainstorming with the marketing and design team to come up with new image ideas, creating complete illustrations, and creating design concepts using a variety of graphics.

This position will have the opportunity to be exposed to different ventures across a variety of industries and have the opportunity to work and interact closely with entrepreneurs, vendors, and members of the management team.

Special Requirements

This position will not require commuting to an office; almost all work will be conducted remotely, however, the ideal candidate should be located in the Boston area. Since the position will not require in person meetings, the ability to work independently and communicate effectively via email, phone and SMS is essential.

Commitment

The Designer must be able to commit through August 15th.

Compensation

The Digital Media Specialist will work with the Creative Director and other staff members to support visual communications for both Vanguard Public Affairs and its clients. Through collaboration and research, the Digital Media Specialist is responsible for creating seamless and effective visuals, including, designing graphics, building websites, social media assets, email marketing campaign and various print materials.

Digital Media Specialist will be responsible for taking direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them seamlessly into graphics, spreads, web pages, photos and videos. This is a full-time position, which relies on the Digital Media Specialist to deliver multiple creative assets, abiding by various brand standards, in a timely manner. The successful candidate for this position must have a great working understanding of marketing and/or public relation campaigns and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This will include working on many multimedia projects, ranging from webpage design to video motion graphics to print materials.

The ideal candidate will have a pulse on contemporary design, a deep expertise across many disciplines, an exemplary moral character, an entrepreneurial spirit, a flexible nature, a creative mind, and a self-motivated attitude.

Knowledge of motion graphics and grammar/writing skills are a plus. Additionally, we are seeking an individual who is eager and open to continuous learning.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • The Digital Media Specialist will be supervised by the Creative Director and work directly with the Communications Manager as well as Senior Staff members to serve clients
  • Create designs for digital platforms such as, social media graphics (posts, cover photos, etc.), graphics for email marketing campaigns (Mailchimp), and website assets
  • Create printed materials such as billboards, direct mail postcards, flyers, posters, etc.
  • Shoot/edit video and photography (may require light travel to client)
  • Create and update websites (mobile, too!) using primarily Wix or other content management systems. Knowledge of Wordpress and HTML/CSS will put your resume at the top of the pile
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Information Systems, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of design theory that includes concept, color theory and typography
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro)
  • Strong print design skills
  • Experience working with Wix and/or WordPress
  • Working knowledge of CSS3, HTML5 and JavaScript is a plus
  • Two or more (2+) years of experience in the communications field
  • Familiarity with mainstream social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
