This job is restricted to tax residents of UK, but we detected your IP as outside of the country. Please only apply if you are a UK tax resident.

Economist Impact partners with corporations, foundations, NGOs and governments across big themes including sustainability, health and the changing shape of globalisation to catalyse change and enable progress.

Signal Noise and the wider digital production team have a long heritage of high quality data visualisation and storytelling, and of other creative technical work.

We have several short projects starting soon; they're mostly 2-3 weeks each but due to the volume we can offer a rolling contract, likely for up to a year. Due to the nature of the work we're open to different start dates or durations.

The work is primarily front end layout and markup, with animation and polish required across the board. It's all based on React templates and component libraries for content types and e.g. headers and footers, and for analytics etc.

Some projects are a single page, others small microsites; many involve data visualisation and charting, so D3 or SVG experience would be helpful. Almost all the work is hosted under https://impact.economist.com and is Economist branded and client sponsored.

Contract/Permanent - Full-Stack Engineer

Full-time - Remote and London, UK

The Company

Juno inspires more human workplaces by connecting employees to better wellbeing choices. We work with businesses to rethink and improve the wellbeing of employees in over 20 countries, across over 28 cities.

We're looking for someone to immediately step in and help us develop our product. Juno is growing fast, and this could be an opportunity to really make a mark with our challenger status.

Working at Juno means working on something truly meaningful: improving the lives of people at work.

Our mission is simple: to change the way employees experience their work life for the better.

The Role

We are looking for our next key hire, Full-Stack Engineer, on a contract or permanent basis, to continue growing our engineering team. Here, you will take complete, end-to-end ownership of projects across the entire stack. Our ideal candidate has experience building products across the stack and a firm understanding of web frameworks, APIs, databases, and multiple back end languages.

The Full-Stack Engineer would work alongside our Product Owner and our Junior Front-End Developer, and will have a lot of freedom in bringing their expertise to the team and the product. They will report to the CEO directly, and will have an opportunity to build the product up to series A and then build the team from there.

Our Tech

Our application is written in ES6 JavaScript, and our stack includes React, Node, Express, Sequelize and PostgreSQL.

On the front end we're using React with styled-components, with very heavy use of hooks and exclusively functional components; no Redux, all Contexts.

For the backend we run on Node, serving Express APIs. Across our applications, we use PostgreSQL as our primary data store, with Sequelize interfacing between the database and Express.

Our codebases use ESLint, Prettier, Cypress and Jest to automate testing. We push to GitHub and deploy (continuously) via CircleCI to AWS.

The Responsibilities

  • Work across the full stack, building highly scalable distributed solutions that enable positive user experiences and measurable business growth
  • Develop new features and infrastructure development in support of rapidly emerging business and project requirements
  • Assume leadership of new projects from conceptualisation to deployment
  • Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful application design
  • Work closely with senior internal stakeholder teams including Product, Commercial, Marketing and Operations.
  • Work with modern development methodologies, adhering to best practices and pursuing continued learning opportunities
  • Architect and provide guidance on building end-to-end systems optimised for speed and scale

The Requirements

  • Strong web frontend development experience, e.g. in React;
  • Strong backend development experience, e.g. in Node.js, Express.js, Sequelize;
  • Strong experience with AWS;
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure tooling e.g. Docker, CircleCI;
  • Confident, and able to take initiative in a delivery-focused environment;
  • Preferably experienced in creating a scaled B2B marketplace solution;

What you get

  • Competitive salary and options;
  • Possibility to be on contract or as permanent;
  • Joining a business that is growing fast and on course for Series A in the next few months;
  • A chance to build the team you want, with the resource to make it best-in-class;
  • Freedom to work from wherever you want.

I'm looking for a part-time designer to help with a range of tasks, designing screens for the mobile apps that are under development and the associated website to promote the app.

We're at the very start of the journey. Initially, it will be mostly UI design, but I have an understanding and appreciation of UX design and as the startup matures bringing some of this into play.

Initially, this will be a 1 day a week contract role.

Will require joining the slack channel and posting updates (daily) as you work, and engaging with the other team members.

For context, I've been working on https://graphql360.com and now building https://aspect360.co (the website isn't much to look at yet).

I'm currently building a startup in the 360° tour space. I've started by building https://graphql360.com and I'm in the process of pivoting to make it targeted at less technical people (It will eventually be called https://aspect360.co).

I have a fairly broad range of things that I need to be done. I am technical myself but somewhat time-constrained. I'm really looking for someone that is interested in having a fair bit of latitude to prioritize the things that they can do to help and a fair bit of self-direction.

The pieces that are to be built are greenfields, so there is some ability to use technologies other than React if desired (for example Angular).

The role will be 1-2 days a week (or alternatively 1 week a month). This is mostly to help me constrain the costs as money comes in. I could really use a full-time person, and with any luck, it will lead to this in time.

A good mix of skills in the front and back end would be appreciated.

I'm available both on email and also on Telegram (https://t.me/vert1s). Currently, I'm in Australia on business so GMT+11.
