Sr. Cloud Engineer (Remote)

Sr. Cloud Engineer for HazDev USGS – Denver Area

Job Description:

The successful candidate will conduct technical cloud implementation activities for one or more government or commercial customers. This is a remote position and requires extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), code-drive deployment, and AWS CloudFormation management. They will assist the Lead Cloud Architect with providing technical direction and guidance to the team(s) of JHC’s Cloud Engineer, Developer and Administrator resources per customer requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

• US Citizen and ability to pass a federal government background investigation
• Minimum Years of Experience: Must have minimum of 4 years of experience in Cloud / AWS Engineering/Development with 7+ years in overall technical engineering
• Minimum Education: B.S. Degree in related discipline or equivalent, additional experience
• Must have at least 1 Professional-Level AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps)

Required Technical Competencies:

• AWS native services experience including but not limited to Route53, EC2, Aurora.
• Experience in security-minded development.
• AWS CloudFormation in-depth knowledge
• Containerization – Docker Swarm or Kubernetes (EKS)
• Serverless architecture in AWS (Lambda)
• Experience with AWS Organizations and Resource Access Management (RAM)
• Extensive experience with git version control, git branching, and CI/CD practices
• Proficiency in one scripting language (BASH, Python, PowerShell or other language)
• Experience with Lambda infrastructure automation through CloudFormation deployment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher in engineering or information systems study
• Contributor to Open Source community

Preferred Technical Competencies:

• AWS Multi-Region Experience.
• GitLab, GitLab CI, and configuration of GitLab Runner (or GitHub)
• Solid understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems
• Configuration management solutions (e.g. Ansible, PowerShell DSC, Chef, Puppet)
• Programming Languages (JS/Typescript, DotNet Core, Java, C)
• Advanced-level knowledge in networking and routing
• Experience with AWS security tools and applications (e.g. Inspector, Config)
• Strong background in Microsoft-based applications
