Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Fantastic opportunity with a large-scale household name organisation of several thousand employees, providing services to millions of customers across the nation. As a Senior infrastructure Engineer you will play a lead role in infrastructure projects, along with supporting BAU Infrastructure Operations (70% BAU / 30% project envisaged).
You will be a key contributor to the design and implementation of solutions ensuring that IT systems meet the required high standards in the areas of non-functional requirements particularly availability, capacity, performance, security and Business Continuity Planning / Disaster Recovery. This is a complex, group business environment with fairly complex, geographically spread IT infrastructure. Projects are varied; i.e. migration work (virtualising platforms and moving to secure 3rd party Datacentres), introducing governance and processes (patching processes) etc.
Suitable candidates will need a minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a 3rd/4th Line Infrastructure Engineer with the following: (not all essential) :
- In-depth technical knowledge of the following areas: Server technologies (IBM / HP server infrastructure, Virtualization technologies (Hyper-V & VMware ESXi), Storage Area Networks, (ISCSI connectivity), NAS, IPAM & Traditional RDMS, Windows Servers
- Knowledge and experience in SQL would be advantageous
- Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols and standards, including but not limited to: Windows Server (2003 - 2016), Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Virtualization, RAID, PowerShell, Office 365 Exchange Shell and portal management, Unified Communications, IP Telephony and Video Conferencing, Windows Desktop (7 to 10)
- Cloud based Back up technologies (Asigra)
- Working knowledge of PKI and SSC Certificate Management advantageous
- Windows desktop and laptop imaging
- Experience of infrastructure automation, virtualization technologies & internal and external hosted cloud technologies would be advantageous
- Citrix XenApp / Xendesktop would be advantageous
- Monitoring tools including Solar Winds would be advantageous
- A strong customer focus with strong communication (verbal/written) and influencing skills, with an ability to manage internal and external relationships up to senior levels of management
- Proven track record and ability in leading technical staff, using wide-ranging skills (including planning, organising and interpersonal skills)
- A good understanding of PCIDSS and ISO27001
- Demonstrate understanding and pragmatic usage of architectural frameworks
- Working knowledge of Visio would be advantageous
- Working knowledge of Project Management processes would be beneficial
- Microsoft Certified, ITIL certification beneficial
- Provide consulting expertise and leadership capabilities throughout the lifecycle of a project
- Participate in processes to select tools/technology that has an enterprise wide impact.
Urgent requirement offering immediate start.
3 month initial contract (high chance of extension)
Paying up to £350 per day.
Contract is based in Central Birmingham.
1 in 5 week on-call for major escalations (not demanding) - remunerated.
