IT Operations Engineer

What you’ll be doing...

Information technology sits at the heart of everything we do. That’s where you come in. You’ll join a dynamic production support team focusing on the applications used by our business to business (B2B) wireless team. Your role will involve working with the application batch job process, streamlining it wherever possible. Your work will ensure your colleagues have the applications they need to effectively support our business wireless customers in the most efficient way possible.

• Maintaining existing batch jobs and creating new ones, finding and implementing dependencies wherever possible to streamline the application batch job process.
• Developing and maintaining job schedules, analyzing automation problems, and resolving them in a timely manner.
• Producing reports on key performance indicators for the B2B applications, creating documents for the batch applications, and ensuring standards are maintained.
• Working closely with the business for portal improvements and new initiatives, coordinating with various teams to implement new jobs and enhance existing batch applications.
• Assisting with staff training programs and the development of operating instructions and procedures for production and testing.

As an Oracle DBA of the Database team, you will provide support, help the development team with database solutions providing 24x7 production support for Verizon’s critical and non-critical applications serving Large Enterprise, Medium Business and Wholesale customers. You will help governance, relationship with various VZ teams and vendors who are under contract to provide 24x7 production support to Verizon. In this role, you will ensure all the Database systems supported by you are 100% compliant, stable, are following all of our internal procedures.

You will be an extension of the development teams, build and foster good relationships, proactive, create plans and execute on major initiatives that drive efficiencies, cost savings and strategic application advantage to the portfolio. Examples of the projects include systems security, compliance, Public Cloud Migration, Data Center Consolidation, Application resiliency, Database upgrades, patching, backup/recovery, Database performance tuning etc.

• RMAN Backup and Recovery.
• HA and DR – RAC (GI, ASM), Oracle Goldengate, Physical Standby Database, Active Dataguard
• Oracle Goldengate (OGG) – Active/passive (one-way), Active/Active Install, setup, configure, troubleshooting, admin
• Database migration scenarios.
• Cloud support and migrations
• Database Installs, upgrades and patching
• BAU (day to day) DBA responsibilities
• Capacity planning, logical and physical Database design
• Provides technical support to application development teams, Application DB release changes, Backout process.
• Understand Application.
• Oracle Performance Tuning (P&T).
• Proactive and Active Monitoring, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) (Synthetic Monitoring).
• Troubleshooting Skills (process, scripts, commands) to quickly Identify and resolve issues.
• Oracle Security and Auditing.
• Storage technologies and Networking.
• ITIL (Release Management, Change management, Crisis Management etc.,)
• Scripting skills: Shell, SQL, Linux/Unix
• Devops, DB release automation for DEVOPS.
• Navigate through Oracle Support process, Open and manage Service requests.
• Prepare documentation for issues and technologies.

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Three or more years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with workload automation, UNIX and Shell Scripting.
• Willingness to provide on-call support as required.

Even better if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
• Experience in IT operations support.
• Familiarity with Java, J2EE, PL/SQL, SQL skills.
• Knowledge of DevOps methodology.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.

• Four or more years of experience as a Senior Oracle DBA to support on-premises and Cloud (OCI and AWS) various flavors of Oracle Databases.
• Experience with Oracle Goldengate.
• Knowledge of various flavors of Databases: MYSQL, AWS Aurora Postgres, NOSQL Database like, Mongodb, Cassandra, Dynamodb.
• Ability to work in a production support environment with availability to attend off-hours calls, provide weekly on-call support.
• Strong DEVOPS experience, Cloud automation (AWS and OCI), using APM tools.
• PL/SQL, Python programming related to Database support, automation etc.,
