This position primarily maintains DB2 UDB databases but a working understanding of other database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB or Cassandra would be a plus. This position supports all environments from development to production with databases that are part of internal or end-user applications. Responsibilities include improvements of database integrity through quality assurance and change control processes. Additional responsibilities include analyzing existing database applications for performance tuning, alerting & monitoring, working with application developers to integrate efforts with relational databases, participation in team or company projects as required, maintaining state-of-the-art knowledge of existing best practices in database administration, design, and implementation, capacity planning and on-site support.

About the role:

• Support production DB2 UDB environment primary on Windows but also AIX and other operating systems.
• Respond and act on trouble tickets, perform change and deployment tasks.
• Participate in disaster recovery exercises.
• Provide on-site support with the team.
• Perform other duties as required to monitor DB2 UDB production environment.
• Perform updates/changes during maintenance windows; understand current capacity issues and the capacity planning processes; work with team to review change requests; participate in software deployments; understand and utilize the Change Management process; Maintain the health of the production,(and/or lower region) environments.
• Assimilate organizational objectives into operational action plans; document work processes.
• Ability to function in primarily Windows but also UNIX\LINUX environments.

Basic qualifications for consideration:

• High School/GED Diploma.
• Strong knowledge of DB2 UDB and how to tune it in a highly specialized operational environment.
• Experience with backup processes & procedures.
• At least 5+ years’ experience working as a DB2 DBA in an Enterprise environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to review and troubleshoot change scripts as needed.
• The ability to document standard operational procedures.
• Knowledge and experience with capacity planning as it pertains to databases.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Work Environment:

• Will work on some holidays.
• Able to work on a rotating on-call basis.

Preferred qualifications for consideration:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, or information technology or related discipline.
• Windows scripting, experience with DB2 SQL query language would be a plus.
• Process automation experience.
• Other Database Platform (Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB or Cassandra) skills are plus, but not required.
• Knowledge of escalation and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) along with industry best practices.

Desired Skills:

• PowerShell, windows batch and/or UNIX\LINUX shell scripting.
• Knowledge of Windows clustering.
• Working IBM DSM (Data Server Manager) configuration, monitoring and reporting.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $50.00 to $55.00 /hour
