Senior Software Engineer in Test to advocate quality across the organisation throughout our digital transformation to micro-services in the cloud – and beyond.

This isn’t a bulk standard SDET role. We are the SMEs in quality and our role encompasses the continuous improvement in our quality strategy and tooling (industry best practice techniques and designs), with supporting the engineering teams in meeting their delivery targets.

You will come from a senior SDET and/or Test Lead background, with experience of automated testing across the Test Pyramid, in an Agile delivery process. You will be passionate about maturing the quality practices across our delivery teams in a large scale global business, and upskilling others to achieve this.

The Team

Sitting in the quality engineering practice (outside the delivery teams), you will be given free rein to positively impact the Quality process within an environment that supports and rewards innovation and creativity. Working alongside the other engineering practices, we educate, enable and empower each delivery team to produce consistently high-quality products as we undergo a cloud transform.

Responsibilities

Evangelising the importance of quality across the Agile teams in a DevOps environment (as we move towards our Continuous Deployment goal)

Supporting the continued improvement and adoption of the Quality Strategy across the teams (working to industry best practices – both in terms of processes and automation)

Implementing test automation frameworks from scratch (including PoCs with new tools and technologies)

Writing (and advising on) maintainable & efficient automation scripts

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Required

Skills and Experience

Taking a lead role for functional testing requirements – Strategic and Hands-on

Coaching engineers on adopting quality improvements

Building test automation frameworks from scratch

Automating tests across the test pyramid, including using TDD & BDD practices

Using Cloud based cross-browser/device testing solutions – with integrated automated tests

Excellent communication skills to a variety of stakeholders

Testing cloud-based (micro-service) solutions

Comfortable with a programming language (ideally Java or JS)

Desired

Using and configuring CI pipelines

Ability to remove perceived barriers to deliver high quality software

Familiarity of NFR testing within a CI pipeline

Using Consumer Driven Contract tests (e.g. PACT)

Familiarity of Data Management to drive secure and efficient tests

Familiarity of wider software engineering aspects (e.g. architecture, security, debugging, experimentation, source code management etc.)
