Systems Engineer

We are currently recruiting a Systems Engineer for one of the largest Utility companies in the West Midlands.

Systems Engineer - Role Objective:
Support and maintain infrastructure Technology. Covering third line support requirements ensuring issues are dealt with within SLA. Ensuring continuous availability of services across the estate including backup and replication for disaster recovery processes. Supporting the upgrade of servers and applications from an infrastructure perspective in line with business objectives.

Systems Engineer - Accountabilities:

• Monitor and manage applications, databases, and web servers to proactively predict and prevent impending issues and maintain 24/7/365 Service Availability
• Execute backup and maintenance procedures
• Application and infrastructure deployment
• Database administration, analysis, and performance tuning
• Part of a dedicated team providing support of on premise and Cloud solutions built on virtual and Physical infrastructures
• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation
• Provide support services during project go-live, performance tuning, and transition to support operations
• IT Infrastructure support for the business
• Able to manage Azure servers and azure overall (applications, AD etc)
• Management of alerts from systems and ensuring the appropriate action is performed
• Able to build, configure and maintain virtualized servers (VMWare)
• Configure and troubleshoot servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
• Manage and maintain Veeam backup replication
• Manage Active Directory and group policy

• Azure & cloud infrastructure understanding
• VMware server virtualization knowledge
• VEEAm backup and replication knowledge
• 2 years working in a IT support role
• Experience of working in a 24x7 environment
• Excellent critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills to drive proactive continuous service improvement
• ITILv2/3 foundation
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
• Excellent working knowledge of standard practices, methodologies and development lifecycles
• Business awareness and understanding of the water industry and/or related industries
• Ability to handle high levels of conflict and pressure
