The post of ICT Support Technician (Education) will provide ICT support to a number of schools in the City who have purchased the Technical ICT Support Service Level Agreement. The postholder's responsibilities will include the following tasks:-
Designing, Installing and maintaining supported Schools infrastructure including servers (physical and virtual) and other related technologies
Undertaking technical tasks on networked computers either client/server or peer-to-peer networks.
Configuring items of equipment, including building devices for use on a network; maintaining a central library of drivers and configuration files
Unpacking and installing ICT equipment such as new computers and peripherals, and enter all new equipment into an inventory database
Checking and re-fitting printer toner and cartridges, and carry out periodic printer maintenance such as cleaning and alignment
Checking the functioning of all networking connections and active components - network cards, data outlets, patch leads, switches, router and wireless connectivity
Undertaking network management, user maintenance, allocating resources to users, maintaining user, public and shared folders and desktop profiles
Diagnosing and reporting faults to Managed Service Supplier or maintenance contractor
Liaising with suppliers or contractors in fixing simple faults not requiring a site visit
Building applications for use across a network
Maintaining a log of all work undertaken
Having knowledge and oversight of whole-school networking topology, connections and components
Installing updates, archiving data, assistance with data export from school administrative systems
Overseeing of all aspects of the school's ICT resources. Strategic advice on networking, purchasing, managed services / contractors
Liaising with external consultants / suppliers on overall network topology, design and implementation
Providing representation at forums and user groups
Liaising with school ICT / e-Learning Co-ordinators on the development of ICT in school
Ensuring that all schools have appropriate licences for the software they are running
Applying service packs and essential updates as and when required
Ensuring regular updates to anti-virus software are carried out
Ensuring that client schools are familiar with legislation relating to health and safety issues and are complying with all such legislation
Advising client schools on best practice with regard to ICT working environments, particularly safety issues as they concern young children in a potentially dangerous environment
Ensuring that all curriculum and administrative systems are backed up appropriately and checked periodically for Audit purposes
Advising client schools on general security concerning their ICT equipment to prevent and/or deter theft
Ensuring that client schools are complying with the terms of appropriate Data Protection legislation
Providing basic training to client school staff as and when required on software and technical developments, including the provision of training materials, if appropriate
Maintaining ICT policy and strategy documents in conjunction with Headteachers and ICT Co-ordinators
Providing reports of work completed on behalf of the client school
Responding directly to communications from client schools and updating task logs
Monitoring work carried out at the client school on ICT equipment/systems by third parties
Advising client schools on most appropriate use of ICT equipment and infrastructure within the school with particular emphasis on broadband services
Advising client schools on the purchase of appropriate hardware and software which ensures the continuing delivery of effective administrative and curriculum ICT services in the client school as reflected in the school's ICT development plan
