An Information Governance Assistant is required with at least one year of experience in an equivalent role, ideally in a local authority.

The Postholder will be asked to assist with the provision of prompt and effective support for all aspects of information and records management across the council, through the consistent application of Information Management and Records Management policies and procedures. This will ensure delivery of a high quality user experience, including fit for purpose systems, and high standards of access, availability, usability, usefulness and excellent standards of service. They will also be required to carry out routine tasks associated with excellent management of information and records.

Duties to include:

  • Apply effective information handling procedures, including those procedures required to manage formal information access requests, for example requests made under Data Protection, Freedom of Information and other relevant legislation and regulation
  • Work with colleagues and clients/users to investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using various methodical and consistent techniques
  • Work under supervision to control and manage the accessibility, retrievability, and security of specific subsets of data and information
  • In accordance with agreed procedures, monitor application systems or modules for which responsible by regular scrutiny of reports from the applications software, systems software or service delivery staff.
  • Receive and log requests for application support from service desk, other service delivery staff and/or users
  • Within own area of competence, investigate issues and other requests for application support and determine appropriate actions to take
  • Assist with the transformation of information from one format/medium to another, where appropriate
  • Document all work to comply to the standards, including reporting details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated
  • Carry out routine collection of information and records as directed and report and escalate unforeseen or exceptional events

You will be expected to have good organisational skills and be able to use IT effectively in implementing tasks.

Pay Rate: £17.36 per hour PAYE

This is a temporary, but possibly long term role.

“Essential Requirements” – Please check to ensure that your CV addresses the following items:

  • Your availability to work either immediately, or at short notice.
  • The post holder will be expected to perform at SFIA Level 2 (‘assist’)
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Understands and uses appropriate methods, tools and applications
    • Demonstrates a rational and organised approach to work
    • Has sufficient communication skills for effective dialogue with users, suppliers and partners
    • Is able to work in a team
    • Is able to plan, schedule and monitor own work within short time horizons
    • Absorbs new information when it is presented systematically and applies it effectively
  • Experience:
    • Familiar with techniques for identifying, gathering and validating users’ needs in the delivery of IT services
    • Application of automated (software) tools which enable selective access to information
    • Tools and techniques (manual or automated) which can be used to document an understanding of the structure, relationships and use of information within an organisation
    • Techniques which help in modelling and understanding a business and its operation
    • Standards, practices, appraisal and certification programs associated with the IT practitioner's current role
    • Configuration management and version control
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages

Anticipated Length of Assignment: All of our roles are technically temporary, though opening assignments can be and often are, extended by clients on a longer term basis and can sometimes become permanent. This opening assignment is for 3 months.
