Freelance UX/UI Designer or Visual/Graphic Designer

    $50 - $110/hourRemoteiWishUX

iWishUX is an End-to-End UX services studio. Our goal is to help our clients identify and fulfil their wishes by taking a research-first approach to design. We are adamant about reducing the likelihood of re-work and adverse effects- so by identifying the right problems, upfront, we intend to save our clients money and time.

We are trying to do things different. For example, we’re prioritising empathy as a part of our process (and that means we acknowledge our biases in order to deliver excellent designs to our clients). What’s most important to us is that through our work, we help people enjoy and celebrate life (focus on the people). Whatever type of project- be it End-to-end, a segment of Research, or one-off Design (UX, UI, Service, Interaction, Product), we grant our clients and their users/people the ability to pursue their wishes towards a better future.

We’re looking for a flexible UX/UI or Visual/Graphic Designer who will work to produce deliverables on end-to-end or segments of the design process. This may include working on specific client deliverables, or supporting research in designing studies and communicating findings through primary UX Visual asset creation.

You will work with our clients to understand their wishes (problems & goals), help scope the feasibility as a design practitioner, and bring an aligned wish to fruition.

    Responsibilities:

    · Outline a client-bespoke step-by-step design process, rationale-evidence, and quality standards with the help of UX Researchers, Project Lead, Interaction and Service Designers

    · Incorporate research, empathy, bias concerns, and atypical/accessibility-needs considerations into decision making

    · Prototype Interactions, UI, Visual Design Elements and Systems based off of Research Briefs

    · Run Design Charettes, Sprints, Critiques, Revisions and other Design Research Methods to capture client/user perspectives + needs

    · Meticulously Document Design Decisions and Process in actionable formats for different stakeholders (Leadership, Developers, other cross-functional teams)

    · Create Pixel-Perfect and appropriate fidelity deliverables with quick turnaround

    · Ensure quality of all outputs and confidently articulate Design-Risk

    · Work across domains for web, mobile, service, and emerging technologies

    · Develop and Refine best-practice documents

    Requirements:

    · Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Art, or related field with making-capabilities

    · 4+ years experience and/or Master’s with working experience

    · Visually compelling portfolio showcasing work that you can explain your process and reference as your example database

    · Attention to detail (layout, composition, structure, punctuation, hierarchy, grids, contrast)

    · Understand how to translate colloquial client terms into design needs and have an affinity for providing examples

    · Commitment to vision alignment with client and articulating strategic foresight

    · Proficient in Prototyping tools (XD, Figma, Illustrator, Sketch, etc.)

    · Photoshop Comping and Adobe Suite Experience

    · Able to examine design-considerations at both Macro and Micro levels

    · Excellent organisational, communication, and planning skills

    · Willingness to adapt process while upholding and disclosing Design Practitioner responsibilities to clients

    · Experience working cross-functionally

    · Willingness to regularly inventory landscape for process improvements and design-relevance

    · At least basic understanding of Javascript, HTML/CSS

    · Able to execute with quality and succinctly explain design rationale + quality control

    · Familiarity with making user flows, information architecture diagrams, libraries, and other documentation

    · Familiarity with storyboarding, interface evaluation, competitive analysis, trends identification, and benchmarking

    · Adamance about tact, and integrity in all client interactions

    · Willingness to resourcefully navigate ambiguity and respectfully upmanage

    · Familiarity with remote tools and knowledge of when to leverage (miro, zoom)

    Nice Additions:

    · Strong understanding of conventional KPI’s, methods and terminology for unearthing business metrics, and previous project management or Consulting experience

    · Experience displaying quantitative information

    · Strong understanding/lexicon of different lens of design practices and expected deliverables (UX vs. UI vs. Interaction vs. Branding, etc.)

    · Experience with Python or other coding languages

    · Systems Research or Systems Design Experience (Visual Systems, Product Ecosystems, UX Guidelines)

    · Knowledge of Service & Interaction Design Concepts (blueprints, inventorying)

    · Interest in IOT, Social Media Paradigms, Digital Dexterity, VR, and other edge of innovation projects

    · Interest in Market + UX research and UX Writing and making content

    · Interest in using different techniques to communicate (blender, physical prototypes, VR, after-effects)

We know it’s hard to have everything. We get it! If you think the bulk of this sounds like you, or you feel inexplicably drawn to this, we’d love to meet!

Senior UX/UI Designer, Concentric by Ginkgo

    RemoteGinkgo Bioworks
    Job details
    Job Type
    Contract
    Full Job Description
Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. Today, our foundry is developing over 40 different organisms to make different products across multiple industries.
In recent months, we've been inspired and heartened by the tremendous public health response to COVID-19, and recognize that a similar scale of effort is needed by the biotech community to find long-term solutions to this crisis. In particular, testing is essential in order to resume our daily rhythms: communities need testing to reunite their people and culture. Businesses need testing to reopen their offices and provide confidence to their teams and stakeholders. And schools need testing to be able to reconvene their campuses and research communities. To respond to this acute and widespread need for COVID-19 testing, Ginkgo has developed a SARS-CoV-2 screening service - Concentric by Ginkgo - that is designed to provide broader access to COVID-19 diagnostic testing solutions. We’re building increased Foundry capacity to support high rates of testing frequency for our clients, offering an end-to-end, onsite testing service designed to test large communities of individuals. Performed at high-scale and high-throughput, this additional testing capacity will be essential for organizations, institutions, and companies to be able to reconvene their teams and reopen their communities.
A critical component of Concentric by Ginkgo’s testing service is its digital portal, supporting the full customer-facing experience of the brand. Specifically, this portal enables test takers to sign up, manage tests, and view their results; customers to organize tests and view aggregated results; and test supervisors to run sample collection events.
Therefore, we’re looking for a highly talented and versatile Senior UX/UI Designer to define the visual identity of this portal, and lead the development of its overall design system. With your expertise in mobile and web application design, you’ll help to create a digital product that seamlessly integrates with our Concentric by Ginkgo brand. Plus, your acute understanding of how to effectively communicate information to users will ensure that test results are delivered with care, confidence, and dignity. Working within a fast-growing team - on a product that will reach millions of users - your role will be key to ensuring the success of this important initiative.
Please note: this is a remote position for a fixed-term contract, which we are looking to fill immediately. We are seeking candidates who live, and are authorized to work, in the United States.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee the UI design for Concentric by Ginkgo’s digital portal, bringing concepts from ideation to developer handoff.
    • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of service designers, delivery specialists, business development leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that this product seamlessly integrates with our Concentric by Ginkgo brand.
    • Develop a visual identity that optimizes user-centric design, delivering COVID-19 test results with care, confidence, and dignity.
    • Create a design system that effectively communicates information to all users, including test takers, customers, and test supervisors.

    Desired Experience and Capabilities

    • 8+ years of experience in UX/UI design
    • Significant expertise in mobile and web application design
    • Acute understanding of how to clearly and effectively communicate information to users
    • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to vocalize opinions and challenge assumptions in a respectful and productive manner
    • Strong passion for accessibility and consistency in design, serving as an advocate for the user in all aspects of the decision-making process
    • Highly adept at communicating ideas and concepts to fellow team members
    • Experience designing for healthcare applications a plus
    • Availability to start as soon as possible

Ginkgo is deeply committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion in all of its practices, especially when it comes to growing our team. We hope to continue to build a company whose culture promotes inclusion and embraces how rewarding it is to work with engineers from all walks of life.
