Lawbite needed a complete redesign of their formerly desktop only web app in order to launch it on iOS and Android. My role on the project was to take the existing web app (never built with mobile in mind) and work alongside the design and development teams to convert it to a more mobile friendly format. 

This was achieved using Figma, Tailwind CSS and Ruby on Rails, with some exposure to StimulusJS.

The result was a fully functional responsive redesign that was ready to be launched on iOS and Android stores in time for the platform's V2 launch.

Pandle

Pandle is a bookkeeping app commissioned by a Canary Wharf and Wirral based accountancy practice, in active development since 2015. As features were added or updated, it became apparent that design inconsistencies were starting to creep in. In addition to this, as individual views became more complex, more and more code was being repeated to add additional UI elements.

The project's goals were:
- Minimize introduction of design inconsistencies across the Pandle UI as new features are added
- Promote and support DRY (don't repeat yourself) coding practices
- Create a "living" style guide where all components can be viewed and edited in a single location

The Economist

During my time at The Economist I was tasked with contributing to their existing Design System, which is used across all their digital products, as well as helping to build out the website to showcase the styleguide.

Paper Trails is an online app where you can create and purchase customised prints of your outdoor activities, challenges or travels, either by connecting Strava or uploading GPX files.

At Meshii I was hired to be the Software Architect and team lead for a small group of talented developers. This involved bootstrapping the application, devops and deployment strategies while also coordinating workflows and feature development.

Web development services

Helped ATS (Applicant Tracking System) startup hya to define their visual identity and build their MVP. I built out the design system using Figma, utilising best practices like team libraries, colour and type styles, and auto layout. 

Alongside the design work, I reskinned existing interfaces, working with the CTO to transition the styling approach from Styled Components to TailwindCSS, providing a faster, more consistent application of the new design system.

I also worked with their designer to plan and implement data-heavy features like reporting, and completely rethought and refactored the application's navigation.

Nous

First engineering hire at nous, a startup helping people understand and optimise their cost of living. I helped to ideate and optimise the MVP roadmap, implementing the first pass with the founders and head of design.

I significantly reduced the time to deliver the MVP by introducing no-code tooling.

At BCG Digital Ventures, I helped to design, build, and launch a number of startups for corporate clients. I was a founding engineer on the teams that built multi-million-pound used car marketplace heycar.co.uk and ground-breaking Moroccan loyalty and payments app kenzup.com. 

At DV I also helped build a number of non-public-facing startups, and worked closely with clients, often presenting to their boards.

I worked with TMW Unlimited to build digital experiences, testing concepts using WebGL and cutting edge tech. I also assisted in maintaining the sites and services of their existing digital clients, like McLaren and Barilla.

One year internship in California followed by two years of work in one of Cisco's IT teams. I started off helping to design and build greenfield projects before specialising in visual design and working on an internal design system.

Lead developer on substantial projects that resulted in significant market growth for the company.

Achievements:
Designed and developed a real-time Enquiry Management System, six month project. Worked closely with all stakeholders during structural planning of the project, and continued during development resulting in a deliverable that met all requirements. Addition of the system to the company portfolio opened up entirely new sectors, enabling significant growth of customer base.

Led development on a year-long project to take an existing large microservice-based codebase and provide substantial new functionality to an existing product that was not, prior to the project, ready for the UK market. Being an OSS application, the development involved multiple developers across multiple organisations. Provided value to the team by supplying guidance and mentorship to other developers unfamiliar with the domain, performed structural planning of, and oversaw development of, interacting microservices to guarantee coherence and ensured development adhered to stakeholders requirements throughout. Addition of the functionality enabled the company to sell the product in the UK, resulting in substantial increase in customer base in previously untapped markets.

Led frontend development on a year-long project to create an entirely new system for managing academic reading lists including integration with many third party systems. Development required my close liaison with the backend team to ensure a coherent overall result. Constant back and forth between both teams throughout the entirety of the project ensured smooth development at both ends. After achieving great success within the company customer base, the product was subsequently purchased by the UK’s leading personal learning platform.

Achievements:
Designed and developed a web application to enable users to book and pay for items and services online. This replaced the long standing manual system which required users to physically pay in person. This development led to an almost immediate 800% increase in service bookings and item sales, this continued to grow over time.

Created numerous enhancements to existing internal and external systems. These enhancements were largely improvements to user experience, using existing platform APIs to create new, contemporary user interfaces that met modern user expectations.
