Job Overview:

Technical Duties:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver a range of complex or high profile projects, as allocated, which may include, but is not limited to e.g. broadband / Enterprise Zone delivery / flood resilience / fuel poverty / housing / skills capital and innovation / smartcard technology / transport infrastructure as appropriate.
  • Manage the development of business cases, ensuring the scope will deliver the capability to enable the benefits of the project to be realised, identifying tasks, undertaking specific technical works and managing works within agreed tolerances.
  • Understand customer needs to manage the development of business case appraisals and submission to the Programme Appraisal Team (PAT), working with the Portfolio Management Office (PMO).
  • Allocating resources in conjunction with the SRO / Head of Service and Team leads as appropriate.
  • Translating customer needs (Internal depts, Public, Politicians, Delivery Partners etc.) into work packages for allocation to the project team in line with the appropriate project management techniques, documenting quality expectations and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure that WYCA's project management procedures are followed in accordance with the WYCA Assurance Framework and that reports are planned and prepared for the relevant governance and committee meetings in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the procurement, appointment and management of technical and commercial consultants, suppliers and contractors, the provision of technical input and support to projects as required.
  • Preparation of briefs, reports, press releases and communications.
  • Liaison with internal and external stakeholders, representing WYCA and Delivery Partners, attending and chairing meetings and site visits, including undertaking public consultation on projects as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with agreed plans, following the principles of 'Management by Exception', by creating and implementing strategies to manage time, cost, quality, risk, communication, health & safety, issues and change management, authorising work packages and using the relevant WYCA Assurance processes.
  • Responsible for budgetary planning, forecasting, financial control including processing and certifying invoices for payment.
  • Develop and share best practice and lessons learned across WYCA and externally as appropriate.
  • Responsible for closing projects and passing the Benefits Realisation Plan to the Business Change Manager.

We are working with a leading public-sector organisation who are searching for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to design, build, test and deploy effective test automation solutions, working within a scrum team. You will also be expected to be involved with some manual/exploratory testing where automation is not applicable.

You will be working within the Visual studio domain for C# or IntelliJ/Eclipse for Java, writing both the initial Behaviour driven development tests and the automated test code itself. The post-holder will take define Product Backlog Items, User Stories or requirements and translate these into tests.

What is the aim of the position?

Expected Tasks

  • Writing Test Automation Code
  • Create test strategies, plans and other testing documents for major/complex projects

  • Analyse requirements/user stories and design automated or manual tests and acceptance criteria
  • Peer review test scripts produced by other testing colleagues. This will include writing Behaviour Driven Tests
  • Lead, co-ordinate and participate in test execution, defect recording and capture of test results using agile Scrum and/or waterfall approaches as required
  • Summarise results of test execution into test reports, during and on completion of testing
  • Be recognised as a software testing SME, mentor business SMEs in support of user acceptance testing
  • Suggest and implement improvements to test processes especially in the area of test automation

To be successful you will need…

Essential:

  • Able to demonstrate extensive experience of delivering professional software testing services
  • Working knowledge of C# and/or Java
  • Evidence of ability to write well-structured code, creating robust and reusable tests
  • Evidence of implementing best practice in test automation
  • ISEB/ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing
  • Evidence of writing SQL queries to setup, manipulate and report on data in a rational database
  • Evidence of writing Behaviour Driven Development tests

Desirable:

  • Experience in using JavaScript

Role Objective:

Key Accountabilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To perform end to end testing of regulatory EDM application under tight timescales. Testing will involve both functional enhancements as well as fixes for production incidents.
  • To work with technical and business stakeholders in understanding scope of new functionality and effect of defect fixing for production incidents.
  • To define and execute all levels of end to end testing to a pre-defined level of quality and agreed timescales e.g. test scripts, test cases, test conditions and test data.
  • To analyse requirements and functional / technical specification to determine acceptance criteria for end to end testing.
  • To report and prioritise faults identified during end to end testing cycles using the specified fault management system and test subsequent fixes.
  • To demonstrate excellent hands on testing experience and a detailed knowledge/ experience of test management and defect management.
  • To work proactively with stakeholders, developers to ensure that test faults are understood and resolved and that appropriate regression testing is undertaken.
  • To work individually to proactively identify improvements in existing test standards, processes and policies for all stages of the M&GP development processes.

  • To work with projects to ensure that the regression test suites are updated to reflect the new requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of and experience testing Enterprise Data Management applications such as Markit EDM (highly desirable), Eagle Pace, Goldensource.

  • Extensive experience defining and documenting Test Plans articulating scope & objectives of each test plan.
