We are looking for a PHP Web Application Developer to join our small, friendly team on a 2-year fixed term contract. Reporting to the Head of ICT, the successful candidate will play a key role in the development, maintenance and support of the organisation’s various bespoke business applications so that they are effective, efficient and compliant.


This is an exciting opportunity to work on multiple applications, in a hands-on varied capacity, in which you can develop your skills and have a real impact.


The successful candidate will join a compact and professional team and will play a vital role in helping the organisation support horseracing in England, Scotland and Wales whilst applying and developing your own skills and career in IT.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

 

  • Prior successful PHP web development work experience or further education
  • Good understanding of the basic web building blocks of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Competency with PHP application development including both monolithic and MVC
  • A solid understanding of web design and security best practices
  • Familiarity with Apache NetBeans as a PHP development tool
  • Good knowledge of MS SQL and familiarity with other relational database systems
  • Awareness of agile development methods and principles like lean, scrum and Kanban
  • Strong organisational, problem solving and time management skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels of the organisation
  • Willingness to help with other areas of IT operation when needed


Additionally an understanding of MS IIS, Access, Office and VBA would be an advantage. A personal interest or previous experience in sports, racing, betting or public sector / not-for-profit work would be a helpful.
