Client. is looking for a seasoned and passionate interaction/user experience designer to help drive our next leg of innovation and growth. You'll collaborate with product management and engineering to design delightful, effective solutions for mobile and desktop web, iOS and Android, as well as internal tools.
Our current UX designer will be on maternity leave starting Jan 2021. We need to cover this gap, but also hope to grow our team going forward by adding a full-time resource. So this is a full-time contract or contract-to-hire position. Client. is based in downtown San Francisco – this position will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. We'd prefer a candidate local to the Bay Area in the medium term.

You'll be responsible for delivering all aspects of interaction design: initial concepts, wireframes, working with product managers and visual designers, creating functional specifications, designing and often executing research and data gathering, and working with engineering through implementation.
In addition to excellent user interaction design skills, strong candidates should have experience thinking in terms of end-to-end UI design, applying strategic thinking and business goals to designs, focusing on user feedback, and understanding the relation of visual design to the interaction. The designer will take a visible role within the company as an advocate for User Experience. You will help define a design process that emphasizes user-centered design and design iteration and refinement.

Typical responsibilities include:
  • Participating in the product definition process with the Product Manager, Engineering Lead and other stakeholders. Clarifying user tasks and objectives.
  • Developing user interface design concepts and wireframes, prototypes, light-weight specs, and other design documents to facilitate discussion and software development.
  • Following the development process and responding to questions and changes as they arise.
  • Developing expert-level knowledge of customers as well as competitive and complementary products and bringing new ideas to the team.
  • Planning and helping execute data gathering and user research of the product and project prototypes.  Conducting basic usability research, fielding surveys, and/or managing professional researchers to ensure that the designs meet the needs of our customers.
  • Working closely with visual design to ensure that mockups and released work meet the objectives of the user experience, fit with the overall brand, are consistent, etc.
  • Assisting in creation and maintenance of design systems and style guides.
Some things we are looking for in a candidate:
  • 5+ years as an interaction designer, creating excellent interfaces that delight the customer.
  • Experience designing compelling consumer mobile apps (iOS and Android) and consumer products/ecommerce for desktop and mobile web.
  • Experience in subscription models a plus.
  • Interest or experience in the Client industry a plus.
  • High degree of creativity and problem solving.
  • Collaborative mindset. Develop ideas alongside the larger product development team, internal stakeholders and the executive team. Embed comfortably and effectively within a cross-functional Agile scrum team.
  • Curious and empathetic, with a passion for customer research.
  • Familiarity with a variety of research and testing tools and methodologies. Ability to prototype a plus.
