Our client, a leading air traffic control services provider, is requiring a UX Designer to join them on an initial 6 month contract.

Contract deemed as working inside IR35, paying in the region of £550-£600 per day umbrella. Client based in Fareham, Hampshire but remote work available.

Successful candidate must be eligible for SC Clearance.

Purpose of Job

We are looking for an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer to contribute to innovation and concept development in the Air Traffic Management domain. This means working with customers alongside subject matter experts and our technical team to conceptualise and design solutions to a range of problems. Many of these concepts will be developed as functional prototypes to help stakeholders understand and evaluate proposed solutions, and your input and expertise will be invaluable throughout the process.

While some concepts will be progressed into product development, others may look to the future and be used to provoke discussion or demonstrate capabilities.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Lead the creation and development of user experiences and user interfaces that are simple and enjoyable to use.
  • Run user-centred design workshops with stakeholders.
  • Deliver concepts through appropriate analysis, research, design, prototyping and testing of customer needs.
  • Create and rapidly iterate both digital and non-digital prototypes to test with users and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the technical team and subject matter experts in an Agile environment to produce and deploy functional prototypes.
  • Develop, translate and communicate design principles, guidelines and best practice throughout the team to build knowledge and optimise concept delivery.
  • Engage with stakeholders of all levels including end users, customers, senior managers, partners and suppliers, ensuring that all stakeholders are kept informed of relevant information.
Key Skills
  • Proven ability to lead UX design activities and help users to understand their problems.
  • Experience in creating interactive wireframes and prototypes, with a strong user interface design skillset.
  • Desire to approach problems in novel ways using a variety of methods to engage with users and customers for the best possible outcome.
  • Capacity and desire to learn new concepts and skills quickly.
  • A growth mindset and understanding that failure is a key part of the learning experience and provides valuable insight.
  • Proven ability to function within a team and be able to communicate and engage effectively, both verbally and in writing, to staff and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to be given problem statements or high-level definitions of work to be done and to define and carry out the work required to deliver success.
  • A healthy and pragmatic approach to a challenge.
  • Openness, transparency and a desire to share your knowledge with others.
Desirable Skills

Experience in the following areas may be beneficial but is not essential:

  • Basic coding skills, e.g., experience with JavaScript
  • Service design
  • Working in Agile/Scrum teams
  • Leading remote workshops and collaboration
