User Experience Designers

About the Role:

User Experience (UX) Designer is a role within the Product Management team. The UX designer is a hands-on role that will work with the User Interface (UI) development, the Corporate Communications and the product management stakeholders to define and maintain a consistent user interface experience across all web-based applications. As the advocate for the end users, the UX Designer will utilize user research, design thinking, and agile methodologies to deliver a positive customer experience, and help increase customer satisfaction with the application’s user interfaces and Web site applications.

How You Contribute:

  • Create and maintain wireframes and prototypes of appropriate fidelity to clearly and effectively articulate workflows and designs.
  • Represent the product vision by researching, envisaging, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing experiences for online offerings.
  • Identify design inconsistencies or challenges and devise user-centered solutions while effectively balancing business needs, technical constraints, and project schedules.
  • Drive strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centric design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Work with subject matter experts and product owners and iterate in rapid cycles through UX options
  • Assist in standardizing the UX across IT applications and provide templates for development team use.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Work with application development teams, and specifically UI developers, in an Agile environment to implement UI designs in accordance with accessibility guidelines into applications.
  • Work with Corporate Communications to apply graphics/visual design and style guide elements.
  • Understand and implement accessibility according to WCAG 2.0 AA compliance for all new designs.
  • Conduct usability studies to solicit feedback from appropriate user groups, including students/alumni and schools.
  • Work with the IT service line teams and product owners to review and QA UI changes to ensure consistency with corporate standards is being maintained across our applications as they are changed.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Design or related field. A combination of education and experience, including military service will also be considered.
  • 5 years’ experience in producing successful user experience deliverables for mobile and/or web-based software applications, with specific experience in:

o Using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
o Mobile, and/or Web and software usability principles and accessibility (including WCAG 2.0 AA) and up-to-date current trends and advances in interface and functional design.
o User interface wireframe and prototyping tools.

  • Working knowledge of HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript and Angular.
  • Full understanding of how to apply the methodologies of interaction design, UX design, graphic design and research to business problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confident presenting to and influencing people, from stakeholders to Executive management.
  • Upon request, must be able to provide a portfolio demonstrating both creative thinking, delivery of solid UX design solutions and creating design from a blank slate
  • Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA and/or Pittsburgh, PA.

Additional Desired Requirements:

  • Experience with:

o User-centered design (UCD), cognitive psychology and user empathy, planning and conducting user research, user interaction design, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, and accessibility.
o Designing component-based front-end using modern frameworks, specifically Angular.
o Agile methodology and working with Agile development teams.
o Design Sprint.

  • Working knowledge of JSF and ADF.
  • Certificate in user experience or customer-centered design.
  • Understanding of device independent interaction Web site design and user interface development.
