The successful candidate’s appointment will be subject to the Council obtaining a satisfactory ENHANCED Disclosure & DBS Adult’s and children’s barred lists checks from Disclosure & Barring Service.

To lead and manage the Internal Delivery Team of drivers and passenger assistants to contribute to delivering a safe, high quality, efficient, value for money Passenger Transport Service for Children’s, Young People and Family Services and Adult Social Care that supports independence and attendance at school or Day Care Centres / Respite of significant numbers of Special Educational Needs Children, Looked After Children, Pupil Referral Units, Post 16 and adult clients.

Ensures that the council’s statutory duty of providing free “home to school” transport for eligible children of compulsory school age living in the local authority area is discharged and compliant with national legislation.

Provides and interprets key performance indicators that informs service decision making, service development and reports performance against agreed standards to Elected Members, Safeguarding Boards, Corporate Strategy Team and stakeholder Management Teams.

Manages the provision of the school crossing patrol service throughout the city.

Pay Rate: £16.28 per hour PAYE

This is a temporary, but possibly long term role.

“Essential Requirements” – Please check to ensure that your CV addresses the following items:

  • Qualifications:
    • NVQ Level 5 in Transport / Business Management or equivalent experience.
    • Health and Safety – IOSH / NEBOSCH or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant Experience:
    • Experience of delivering and planning services at an operational level
    • Experience of successfully managing activity and performance targets
    • Experience of building and maintaining effective teams, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff within the team.
    • Experience of Safeguarding
    • Experience of change management, planning and implementing new ways of working.
    • Experience of budgetary management in an operational field.
    • Experience of Risk Management in an operational field.
  • Knowledge:
    • Well developed knowledge of Transport industry and associated legislation / regulations.
    • Good understanding of performance frameworks in an operational environment.
    • Understanding of personal responsibilities when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues.
    • Knowledge of Finance and Risk Management in an operational environment.
  • IT skills including Microsoft packages

Anticipated Length of Assignment: All of our roles are technically temporary, though opening assignments can be and often are, extended by clients on a longer term basis and can sometimes become permanent. This opening assignment is for 1-2 months.

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
