We are seeking temporary support to manage the configuration, capacity, security and availability of databases to ensure that they operate reliably, securely, efficiently and meet the requirements of the Service Level agreements.

Applicants must have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle RDBMS or SQL, T-SQL and PL/SQL or Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services together with an understanding of one or more of the following lines of business applications: Capita ONE; Servelec Mosaic; Liquidlogic Children’s System; Wisdom EDRM and Dynamics CRM.

Duties will include:

  • Specify, plan and implement deployments and amendments to ensure that the LGSS supported database environments continue to meet changing business and legislative requirements.
  • Monitor the production usage of the LGSS supported database environments, recommending enhancements to ensure effective and efficient use of computer resources.
  • Manage and control the test and production Oracle and MS SQL Server environments, including where applicable, user administration, library management, data-dictionary, program migrations and security profiles, to ensure a responsive but secure service is maintained.
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical problems, working with users and third party suppliers as appropriate to ensure that agreed levels of service, quality and security are maintained at all times.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures and standards for database environments and other technical aspects of database administration to ensure the quality and reliability of the delivered product.
  • Manage small projects, and work packages within larger projects, to ensure successfully delivery to the agreed scope, time-scale and budget.
  • Provide internal and external advice, consultancy and support on technical aspects of Oracle and MS SQL Server to ensure that the best design decisions are made.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the database applications to ensure that the systems will continue to run smoothly.

Pay Rate: £17.01 per hour PAYE

This is a temporary, but possibly long term role.

“Essential Requirements” – Please check to ensure that your CV addresses the following items:

  • Your recent UK working experience going back at least 5 years, or full employment history if you have been working for fewer years than this.
  • Your availability to work either immediately, or at short notice.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  • Qualifications:
    • 2 A levels, HNC, HND, NVQ level 4, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge & Experience:
    • An understanding of what is involved working in an IT support environment.
    • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle RDBMS or SQL, T-SQL and PL/SQL or Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.
    • An understanding of one or more of the following lines of business applications: Capita ONE; Servelec Mosaic; Liquidlogic Children’s System; Wisdom EDRM and Dynamics CRM.
    • Understanding of policies concerning data security, data protection, and confidentiality.
    • Experience of working in an IT support environment.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly and confident manner. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Excellent customer care skills with substantial experience of client/user contact in a variety of situations.
    • Ability to work with, and support, other staff.
    • Ability to take responsibility in a support situation.
    • Ability to prioritise and plan the work of others.
    • Ability to handle pressure, prioritise conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
    • Self-reliant and able to use initiative.
    • Flexible attitude and approach to work.
    • Ability and motivation to gain useful experience in new technical areas
    • Ability to analyse complex issues and quickly identify possible solutions based on a sound analysis of the information available.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages.

Other preferable/desirable details to include on your CV, if applicable:

  • Any local authority/public sector experience.
  • Any relevant qualifications held or being studied for.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a numerate or IT subject or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Formal training in Oracle & SQL Server Database management.
  • Understanding of ITIL service management.
  • Experience of project management on small to medium scale projects.
  • Experience of service level management.

Anticipated Length of Assignment: All of our roles are technically temporary, though opening assignments can be and often are, extended by clients on a longer term basis and can sometimes become permanent. This opening assignment is for 2-3 months.
