Kin + Carta West, formerly Spire Digital, a subsidiary of Kin + Carta and award-winning 21-year-old custom software development firm in Denver, is seeking a Tech Lead to join on a contractor, full time (40 hours a week). The Tech Lead will manage other developers and teammates to ensure the technical goals of the project are met on behalf of the client. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing functional requirements, execution, and performance for a core set of features and/or components. This is an opening for a 1099 contract, hourly position.

We are looking for a Tech Lead who is strong in React and React Native development, and excited about building performant mobile apps on both the iOS and Android platforms. You will be responsible for architecting and building applications, as well as coordinating with the teams responsible for other layers of the product infrastructure. Building a product is a highly collaborative effort, and as such, a strong team player with a commitment to excellence is required. Additional strengths we are seeking include React.js, Node.js and other backend technologies such as PHP, as well as MongoDB experience. Overall, the Tech Lead owns the architecture and code, and manages the developers.

On any given day, you will:

  • Attend daily standups (and be prepared to run them when product is unavailable).
  • Own the architecture and code of your project.
  • Build pixel-perfect, buttery smooth UIs across both mobile platforms.
  • Leverage native APIs for deep integrations with both platforms.
  • Diagnose and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks for performance that feels native.
  • Reach out to the open source community to encourage and help implement mission-critical software fixes—React Native moves fast and often breaks things.
  • Maintain code and write automated tests to ensure the product is of the highest quality.
  • Transition existing React web apps to React Native.
  • Build custom software using frontend technologies such as React.js (and/or other javascript frameworks/libraries) as well as the backend using Node.js, PHP, .NET and other technologies that delights clients.
  • Work with CMSs such as WordPress (custom); Drupal, and others.
  • Participate in the occasional sales call to help scope out prospective projects as needed.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced developers to help them advance their skill set and career path.
  • Oversee one or more developers on project teams; set architecture, do PR reviews on all code.
  • Manage DevOps needs and tickets.
  • Provide input on aligning priorities/roadmap with technical order of events.
  • Ensure all tickets have implementation notes for developers.
  • Review the Jira board and keep developers on task.
  • Review Jira tickets' acceptance criteria before assigning to devs, works out any discrepancies with Product Owner.
  • Collaborate with Product Owner on ticket level roadmap from a technical sequencing perspective.
  • Take direction from Practice Lead.
  • Manage developers.
  • Onboard developers.
  • Coordinate with QA on issues found & determine which issues must be fixed and which can be punted to later.
  • Maintain confluence.
  • Skills You Bring:

  • Firm grasp of the JavaScript {{and TypeScript or ClojureScript}} language and its nuances, including ES6+ syntax.
  • Knowledge of {{functional or object-oriented}} programming.
  • Ability to write well-documented, clean Javascript code.
  • Rock solid at working with third-party dependencies and debugging dependency conflicts.
  • Familiarity with native build tools, like XCode, Gradle {{Android Studio, IntelliJ}}.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, the document request model, and offline storage.
  • Experience with automated testing suites, like {{Jest or Mocha}}.
  • Proficient in coding with React.js, with experience using other frontend technologies like Angular 2+ and Vue.js.
  • Proficient in coding with Node.js.
  • Proficient with MongoDB (other databases are great additions).
