About this role:

As an engineering manager at PowerDMS, the people on your team are your first priority, providing career guidance and growth opportunities. As PowerDMS shifts to our next-generation architecture, you will lead your team members to deliver solutions for our award-winning PowerDMS SaaS products that serve public safety, healthcare, and Fortune 500 organization that leverage cloud-native technologies and patterns, including .NET Core, Kubernetes, TypeScript, and React. You will partner with product management and project management to plan your team roadmap and objectives, and you’ll also work closely with the technical leadership team to help shape and execute the long-term technical vision and strategy of PowerDMS.

 

What you would do in this role:

  • Manage up to two scrum teams of engineers, up to 10 individuals in total
  • Conduct performance management for your team, including regularly scheduled 1:1s and annual reviews
  • Provide constructive and actionable feedback to team members to enable career development and new opportunities
  • Help evaluate and plan new initiatives that your teams will be working on collaboratively with product managers and project managers
  • Provide technical oversight in the day-to-day execution of work from the teams, including architectural adherence and code quality
  • Be a point of escalation for any technical issues that your teams face
  • Broadcast critical information around planning and risks to Build Leadership via regularly occurring opportunities
  • Actively participate in planning work for the team via our scrum ceremonies
  • Identify ways to improve the teams that you work with
  • Participate in technical vision and strategy planning and champion these decisions with your teams
      

What you need to know/have for this role:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to contribute to cross-functional collaboration
  • Several years of performance management experience in a technical field
  • You know how to get the best out of your team’s performance
  • The ability to introduce changes to your teams that improve how they work
  • Knowledge of different scalable enterprise architectures, such as monolithic applications, service-oriented architectures, or microservice architectures
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Aptitude for software development in client-side and/or server-side technologies
  • Understanding of computer science concepts that include object-oriented principles, data structures, and algorithm analysis
  • Ability to enforce clean code that can be tested in automated ways, such as unit or functional tests
  • Experience with tools that support software development, such as source control, build automation, static code analysis, architectural KPIs, and so on.
  • Knowledge of persistence technologies which include relational and/or non-relational databases
  • The ability to work as a team member to solve complex problems with your team
  • Strong understanding of API Design, both for first-party and third-party consumption
  • The skills to deliver production software that starts from ideation
  • You enjoy learning new things and never stop
  • Rolls easily with an ever-changing environment

Physical/Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
