Software Engineer - Java/C++
Morson have an exciting opportunity for 4 experienced contractors to join a leading electronics & systems company on an initial 6-month contract at their office in Dorchester. The client is a developer of marine communication systems for the defence industry, so this would be ideally suited to someone familiar with software for underwater comms or unmanned vehicles.
Role Description:
Application of a software engineering approach to undertake all tasks within a software development lifecycle. The role will be to support the development of software systems for above-water and underwater solutions, products and systems. You will be developing internal frameworks and Java parcels in support of multiple projects, so experience developing with Java or Java FX is essential. If you are proficient with C++ it would be advantageous. Netbeans for Java and Visual Studio for C++ are also highly desirable. OS: Windows or Linux.
Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required:
Full Lifecycle Software Engineering development, processes, and tools.
Preferably have an understanding of military systems, in particular maritime systems
Understanding of Open Systems Architectures and Principles.
Ability to solve complex problems and to critically review results and methods to ensure quality.
Ability to expand knowledge into new domain areas and work across domains, i.e. integration of equipment and software.
Awareness of ISO 9001 and TickITplus standards.
Understanding of software configuration management.
Excellent communication skills.
Good written skills, particularly technical report writing.
Ideally the candidate will be seasoned in one or more of the following areas:
Methodologies: Waterfall, Agile, Lean, Test-Driven Development
Networks: TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP
Software Safety: DEF STAN 00-56 & IEC 61508 or equivalent
Testing: Unit Testing, Junit, CppUnit, Automated Testing, Integration Testing, Test Execution, Test Reporting
HMI design and development
ADDITIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION: We seek 4 software engineers who have worked in a military / defence environment / industry within the last 12 months or who are capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC Level Minimum).
