Big Room Studios is a software development services company that specializes in the creation of innovative web and mobile applications using React and Node.js, and AR/VR using Unity and C#. JOB DESCRIPTION

Big Room Studios is looking for a software engineer to play a key role in the writing, testing and maintenance of interactive user interfaces for the web, with a knack for user experience and/or data-intensive applications. Most of the time you’ll be part of an agile team developing an application, but sometimes you’ll be embedded on a client’s team providing your technical expertise to their project. When not working on a client project or staffing a client team, you will be contributing to our open source or other internal initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have 1. several years of professional development experience and 2. a formal education in computer science and/or mathematics, or demonstrable experience solving technical software problems. A good fit for us is a person who has graduated from writing programs and coding on their own, to participating in teams that attend to engineering software solutions for other people.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Building interactive single-page applications...
  • With modern JavaScript.
  • With some reactive UI library, e.g. React.
  • With application state management, e.g. Redux or MobX.
  • That interact with web services, i.e. APIs.
  • Versioning code with git.
  • Working in the context of a team, small or large.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Building interactive UIs using React.
  • Knowledge of the Material UI design system, or any of its library implementations.
  • More advanced understanding of user experience and/or accessibility best practices.
  • More advanced approach to application state management, especially as it relates to consuming data from web services into the UI.
  • Building web services, especially with Node.js.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Familiarity with basic Linux development or system administration.
  • Using Agile methodologies.

This is a contract-to-hire position. The successful candidate will be offered a contract ranging from 3-6 months, at the end of which an offer for full-time employment may be made. BRS hires with an eye towards long-term relationships. BRS offers a highly creative environment for enthusiastic developers. While working on-site is preferred, some amount of remote work is available for qualified candidates.
