Software Developer (Unix & Linux) – Contract – London/ Manchester

HMRC is looking for a Software Developer (Unix & Linux) - Contract

This is a REMOTE 6 month initial contract INSIDE IR35

We need someone to start ASAP. This role is fully remote. The office base is one of London or Manchester, if you were commutable to that office it would help in the future but not essential.

HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers.

We are undergoing a major transformation programme, which includes a major investment in digitisation. This means customers can do more for themselves online, in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones therefore we are establishing a team of outstanding people who will build and run these new and improved technology services.

Responsibilities

• Movement of data into and out of the Oracle based IDS data warehouse, supported by Unix scripting integration for scheduling, file movement between servers and external data transfer methods e.g. UTM.
• Integrate with the existing ETL support team, progressively providing increasing support for incident resolution, project discovery requirements and the day to day ad hoc system enquiries for which the team is responsible. Acquiring further insight into the operational systems.

Essential Skills

• Excellent Unix based scripting background, BASH ideally.
• Expert administrator of UNIX and Linux Servers.

Nice to have:

• Good working knowledge of integration with Oracle, Ingres and MySQL.
• Experience working in an AWS Cloud.
• Windows server administration experience.
