Job Summary

This is a great remote work opportunity for a VistA Software Architect to support the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Portfolio's Pharmacy Products under the Health Program Management Office (PMO) contract. The role will serve as a Pharmacy lead on the VistA framework, and advise on best practices in building enterprise level solutions for VA. Additionally, this role will develop and document IT architecture models and their lower level components. They are also required to interpret, use, and apply information contained within IT architecture to inform a range of business improvement and transformation activities, particularly those involved in the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of IT support systems.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • IT Strategy development, maintenance and monitoring including strategic road mapping
  • Enterprise architecture definition and maintenance including establishment and maintenance of standards such as technology “bricks”, design patterns, controlled vocabularies and interfaces
  • Solution architecture guidance through direct, sprint by sprint engagement
  • Solution Architecture review and approval at Design, Release Planning, Test Readiness, and Operational Readiness Reviews
  • Recommendation and execution of processes for Analysis of Alternatives and Market Research for products and services to be acquired, including measurable success criteria
  • Oversight for development and maintenance of Enterprise Data Models and Web Service Specifications
  • Provide technical support in areas such as integration with internal/external interfaces and environment support (e.g. cloud)
  • Approve the design, build and implementation of enterprise-class systems for a production environment
  • Align standards, frameworks with overall business and technology strategy
  • Create solutions that balance requirements across business, IT, and security
  • Identify design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend changes or enhancements
  • Work as a team player and leader in order to effectively coordinate across functional teams

Qualifications and Skills

  • VA and VistA architecture and technical experience required.
  • VA Pharmacy experience and knowledge of legacy applications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific/technical discipline and 10+ years of experience, particularly in IT software architecture
  • Prior experience supporting the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other Government agency
  • Familiarity with Agile/SAFe methodology
  • Familiarity with support for security and information assurance activities such as Authority To Operate (ATO) and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP).
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools (E.g., JIRA, Xray, GitHub, Slack, Selenium)
  • Experience with Cloud Solutions – GovCloud, AWS, Azure, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS
  • Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills with proven ability to balance competing tasks and meet deadlines
  • Powerful problem solving, applied reasoning, and analytical skills; experience translating analysis into clear recommendations and concrete action steps for diverse audiences
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including reports and presentations
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, collaborative, and results-driven environment with minimal guidance and supervision
  • Means to build and manage client and professional relationships at all levels
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude
