Senior Enterprise (Domain/Segment) Architect

JMA Solutions, a leading government contractor for the Federal Aviation Administration, has a full-time opportunity for a Senior (Domain/Segment) Architect. The systems engineering responsibilities span from requirements definition through the entire product lifecycle, including systems integration and testing. This position is located in Herndon, VA.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain segment architectures / roadmaps describing the to-be state and transition plan, with scope covering investments, systems, organizations, business functions, and technologies.
  • Determine the architectural artifacts/ models, required and optional, for representing investments and solutions for the Mission Support enterprise architecture. Artifacts for consideration include the DODAF artifacts and artifacts identified in the “Common Approach to Federal Enterprise Architecture” such as a Concept of Operations and Business Process Model.
  • For each proposed artifact, provide the following:
  • Template for the graphical representation of the artifact.
  • Description of the type of information conveyed by the artifact.
  • Level of detail needed to be specified by the artifact.
  • Training material for a person to develop the artifact.
  • Categorize investments and applications using FEA and FAA reference models. Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the reference models and provide guidance on how to use the reference models consistently for categorizing investments and applications..
  • Conduct Enterprise Architecture (EA) reviews of investments and applications—AMS F&E investments and SDLC applications.
  • Develop service capability roadmaps, i.e., for records management, document management, and enterprise search.
  • Support the EA ontology activities
  • Support the EA data modeling activities

Job Requirements

  • Expert level of technical knowledge and understanding of architecture, application systems design and integration
  • Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of industry's business environment and domain
  • Speak the language of business - translate business problems into technical solutions and measure success using business terms.
  • Speak the language of architecture - frameworks, API-first architecture, microservices, patterns, maturity models, physical, logical, functional diagrams, use cases, etc.
  • Speak the language of technology - new technologies, trends, directions, modeling, POC's, non-functional requirements, SLA's, compare/contrast vendors in a technology space.
  • Anticipates internal and or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvements
  • Possess excellent communication skills coupled with a keen analytical aptitude. Self-motivated, ability to adapt to new environments quickly, capable of
  • Maintaining positive and productive working relationships in independent, and team environments.
  • Experience supporting or conducting meetings with stakeholders to capture functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Evaluate information gathered from multiple sources.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office products (primarily Work, Excel, and PowerPoint), Strong problem solving, analytical and communication abilities

Required Skills:

  • Previous work experience at the FAA
  • Experience with modeling using a tool, like Sparx.
  • Experience working in Agile environment is highly desired
  • Knowledge or experience as a Scrum Master (Scrum Master Certification is a plus)
  • Experience using JIRA.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust Background Clearance.

EDUCATION: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Business Systems, Management Information Systems, IT Management, and/or other IT Degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Engineering, Math, and/or Science Degrees are acceptable substitute Degrees.
