Scala Developer (Hadoop)

Our client, a global supplier for IT services, requires experienced Scala Developer with Hadoop experience, to join their team in their clients' office in Bristol. You are able to work remotely until covid abates

This is 12 months temporary contract, to start ASAP.

The right candidates should have strong Scala and Spark experience, preferably working with Spark SQL.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take direction from Lead Hadoop Developers
• Liaise with Data Wranglers/Business Analysts, Business Subject Matter experts and other staff
• You will be working under your own direction so we require a self-starter with a proactive approach to identifying work packages and working with the team to identify solutions

Key Skills/Knowledge:

Essential:

• Strong Scala experience (eg:- Usage of functions, tuples, case classes)
• Strong Spark experience, preferably working with Spark SQL
• Phoenix
• Kafka
• HDFS
• Hbase
• Unix Shell Scripting
• Git (Version control)
• Writing and maintaining unit tests/acceptances tests (TDD/BDD)
• Experience with Git or other VCS tools
• Some experience with dev ops tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, Urbancode.
• JIRA/Confluence/Agile-Scrum-Kanban methodology
• Experience with Linux Shell
• Worked in an agile team before
• Strong communication skills - Conference calls, huddles, written and verbal skills
• A proactive self starter

Desirable but not Mandatory Experience:

• Experience with Scala libraries such as Cats, Shapeless or Frameless
• Experience parsing structured data using Spark SQL
• Experience with Maven or other build tools (SBT, Gradle, etc)
• Knowledge and experience of pure functional programming, in Scala or other programming languages (Haskell, Elm, etc)
