The Role

We are looking for someone who takes pride in building maintainable software solutions and enjoys working in an agile full-stack development team. You will have sufficient industry experience to be able to provide technical leadership, you will enjoy a challenge and be passionate about producing high quality software.

Team

We are a full stack software development team that embraces the agile approach to software development; we design, build, test, and support our applications, we deploy our applications frequently, and we work directly with our customers.

Our main customers are the operations teams, and we also support the teams that plan and build the networks and services. We provide bespoke web-based applications targeted primarily at network monitoring and automation.

Skills

Our core skills/tech stack:

Languages: primarily Ruby (Ruby on Rails) with some Javascript (we've also recently been using Go and Elixir for some of our work).

Practices: TDD / BDD, agile methodologies (more Kanban-like than Scrum), continuous integration, DevOps, automation.

Technologies: Postgres, Linux, Mac, Ansible, vim, Jenkins.

Attributes

You will be expected to:

Be an experienced software developer. TDD will be your default way of working: driving the development of your code via tests. You will have a solid understanding of the importance of shared code ownership, pairing, agile principles, and the management of technical debt.

Have a keen eye for detail and care deeply about building reliable and well-tested systems.

Work well with customers.

Be curious and passionate about troubleshooting, actively seeking out problems and solving them.

Proven ability to quickly learn new skills and innovatively solve problems

Be passionate about technology.

Experience

  • Several years in software engineering
  • Several years of agile, devops working environment
  • Latest version of Ruby on Rails - version 5 / 4
  • Full stack background would be ideal
  • Anstiable to deploy
  • Bootstrap
  • VIM
  • Build Tools - Jenkins

Desirable:

  • Javascript-nice to have, only used for Adhoc tasks (not framework react etc) manipulate DOM
  • Go and Elixir-few little things ongoing so nice to have

Qualifications

  • Degree level education
  • Relevant industry body memberships
