Quality Assurance / Automation Engineer

Ashburn, VA

Job Description

Kollabio, a boutique digital startup that provides digital transformation solutions, products and services to private and public sector, is seeking a Mid-Level Test Automation Engineer to join a fast-moving product development team. We are looking for a passionate, experienced engineer with a strong background in programming combined with a passion for software quality and test automation. The ideal candidate has experience implementing an automated testing strategy at all layers of the application, especially at the API and UI layers. You will be part of a small Agile team that is building a new platform for optimizing business process flows in the federal agencies and other commercial organizations.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A problem solver. You aren't afraid to go deep, experiment, learn on the fly, and do the work.
  • Passionate about turning complex business requirements into working software that delights users.
  • An expert in JavaScript and modern reactive frameworks: preferably Vue, or a desire to leverage React experience to master Vue.
  • Humble but opinionated. You have lots of ideas, yet you are happy to shift directions when a better path emerges. You take your work much more seriously than you take yourself.
  • An active collaborator. You want feedback on your work early and often, and you get a kick out of a collaborative process because it challenges you to do better work.
  • Engaging beyond 1s and 0s. You understand that empathizing with our customers, building relationships with your co-workers, and going deep on the product makes you a better teammate and a better engineer.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Owner, Scrum Master and other development team members to implement a comprehensive test strategy for a SaaS platform
  • Automate test scripts using JavaScript-, Java-based automation frameworks and tools so they can quickly be referenced and re-executed with minimal human intervention
  • Test and validate software to ensure that it satisfies requirements and is free from defects. Maintain existing tests and write manual and automated tests while features are being developed
  • Troubleshoot and mitigate issues; analyze the root cause for testing failures and open appropriate tickets with sufficient findings
  • Integrate test automation into the CI/CD pipeline and increase the organization's speed to market
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner, Scrum Master and rest of the development team members to create user stories, define acceptance criteria, and build test cases
  • Decompose assigned Stories from the backlog, develop testing and validation tasks to ensure software meets specified functional, performance, scalability and reliability requirements.
  • Facilitate testing improvements by recommending best practices, supporting other testers and sharing knowledge of test tools.
  • Participate in lower environment integration testing and production deployment verification testing efforts; Conduct manual testing of application components where automation is not a good fit
  • Participate in all Agile ceremonies (ex: planning, retrospectives, demos, grooming and daily stand ups)
  • Demonstrate work produced to internal team members and the customer product owner as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience automating UI and API testing using Selenium, Cucumber or equivalent test automation frameworks in a fast-moving, dynamic product development environment
