This role is with a Syrinx Financial Technology Partner based in Boston, MA
Fully Remote for now - Local candidates only (Expect someone to be on-site post Covid)
24+ Month Contract with Possible Extension (Syrinx will hire full-time if desired)
 
You’ll have the opportunity to wear multiple hats and play a key role in product development with a growing start-up within a global company and innovation leader in the financial industry.
 
The Principal Database Engineer will ensure the availability and optimization of our production, development, and QA database environments. Our current data environment is primarily MS SQL Server run on premises. Candidates will assist with migrating to alternative data stores that may be more appropriate based on the latency, parallelization and isolation demands of a variety of critical use cases. Experience with cloud native database technologies is helpful (AWS preferred). Experience with relational database design is a plus.
 
Candidates must have experience with database development and database administration on the SQL Server platform, preferably in an Agile environment. A solid understanding of SQL Server internals and the ability to spot problematic areas, analyze solutions, propose resolutions and direct their implementation is essential.  The candidate will work with the team to provide technical expertise and guidance to multiple delivery teams in a DevOps environment.
 
Responsibilities:
·        Efficiently and effectively troubleshoot problems in all environments as they arise
·        Identify and correct bottlenecks
·        Review developer database code and work with developers to implement suggested enhancements
·        Occasional on-call responsibilities of mission critical systems
·        Contribute directly on data preparation and ETL workflows.
 
Qualifications:
·        Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field is preferred
·        Experience designing and implementing cloud native relational and non-relational database technologies (Aurora, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Hadoop, SPARK, etc.) in AWS.
·        Software development or scripting experience (Terraform, PowerShell, python, C#, node.js, etc.)
·        Experience with backup/recovery tasks, user administration, and SQL Server installation and configuration
·        Experience with traditional RDBMS platforms such as MS SQL Server
·        Knowledge of Windows Server 2012/2016, Linux platforms
