Role: Oracle PL/SQL Developer
Location: Wokingham
Contract: 6 month Contract
Rate: £400 per day
The Oracle PL/SQL Developer will be responsible for detailed design, code development and unit testing for BM related project changes over the next few years within the Clients Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) landscape. This is part of the expansion of the existing team who have developed and supported the system over the last 20 years.

Success criteria: Successful CNI BM application changes delivery meeting the required quality criteria within agreed schedule for the assigned scope of work.

Experience required

Oracle PL/SQL Developer with strong Pro*C skills, C, XML
Good understanding Oracle 10+.
Able to:
Interpret Oracle Entity Model.
Write SQL, Views and PL/SQL Packages for development.
Interrogate Oracle Database for Support.
Pro*C, but good 'C' programming experience would be sufficient.
XML, definition of XML views on Oracle tables.
Some understanding of OpenVMS, directory structure and navigation will be useful.
Configuration Control and software release and deployment using CMS/MMS, Polycenter and PVCS Tracker.

Experienced in working in small development teams, working to deliver high quality code to tight timescales.
Experienced in developing IT code for complex market / engineering solutions.
Experienced in updating legacy systems, rather than just green field development
Prior experience on OpenVMS operating system and extensive coding in the required languages
Experience of integrating, testing and debugging complex systems.
Experience of producing and maintaining project design, test and support documentation.

Accountabilities:

Duties will include:

  • Manage small projects, and work packages within larger projects, to ensure successfully delivery to the agreed scope, time-scale and budget.
  • Provide internal and external advice, consultancy and support on technical aspects of Oracle and MS SQL Server to ensure that the best design decisions are made.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the database applications to ensure that the systems will continue to run smoothly.

Pay Rate: £17.01 per hour PAYE

  • Providing script for database inquiry languages, i.e., T-SQL (SQL Server) and PL/SQL (Oracle) to provide analysis and exporting data etc. based on the requirements from the business.
  • Setting up a system distribution method to Citrix and application servers for both Web and Window applications.
  • Troubleshooting systems in the event of failure and implementing solutions, including checking Windows Operating System, MS IIS and any other relevant environments where the system is running. In some cases this will involve liaising with other application support team staff.
  • Following the existing team programming policy to keep a common development style to be shared among team members.
  • Updating versions of MS .Net Framework and MS Visual .NET platform to include any necessary changes of existing systems running in Production.
  • Liaising with the relevant support team, i.e. Development, Technical Support, Network and Infrastructure, when users experiences system problems.
  • Maintaining development on SQL Server when changes are made and testing before being rolled out with the cooperation of SQL Server DBAs.
  • Assessing the impact of data processing loads on SQL and Oracle database and, when appropriate, finding alternative approaches.
  • Rolling out changes made by system development and ensuring the change history has been maintained.
  • Communicating with primary support Helpdesk staff in London and New York to give Application Developers the necessary advice, suggestions etc.

My client is looking for a SQL Developer to join the organisation on an initial 6 month contract.

Essential:

  • SQL Server 2008 onwards, TSQL, PL/SQL,

Accountabilities:

The post holder will have responsibility for the successful development of technical data and analytics solutions providing quality data required to support evidence based business and operational decision making.

You will be forming part of a scrum agile team and develop to specification, unit test and implement extract/transform/load (ETL) processes using custom ETL or ETL tools.

  • To develop data and analytics solutions using industry best practice so that the code delivered is running, meets business requirements and definitions, conforms to Data & Analytics design specifications and has the controls and checks in place to satisfy audit/finance guidelines
  • To document the technical design of developed components in accordance with Data & Analytics standards
  • To develop to estimated timelines or update management of deviations to these estimates.
  • To raise critical technical issues to the Development Stream Lead/Technical Delivery Manager that may impact on the timeline
  • Working with their scrum agile team members, to undertake and support unit and regression testing of the codebase to ensure it can be delivered and meets business/operational requirements and can be run in a system testing environment.
  • To undertake fixes to the code, where necessary
  • To undertake performance tuning of where required


Knowledge:

  • Detailed working knowledge of ETL/ELT, data warehousing/business intelligence methodologies and best practice including dealing with big data, cloud technology and unstructured data and the relative required approaches
  • Knowledge of star schema structure & design, detailed understanding of Kimball & Inmon and hybrid data warehouse design
  • Understanding and experience of Agile development approach and tools


Skills:
