Job Description

Title: Sr. Operation Engineer

Location: remote

Type : contract

First Shift Support – 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Provides Engineering management and support of stand-alone infrastructure environments in support of Services operations. Work with other technical teams in delivering real-time technical support in a 7 x 24 x 365 engineering support environment.


  • Provides off-hours on-call support on a rotating basis with engineering peers. (including holidays & weekends.
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Conducts complex network equipment installation and related OS support activities.
  • Configures and maintains installed systems to meet compliance requirements.
  • Performs primary break/fix and various troubleshoots tasks while seeking to provide resolution for data network performance and interoperability problems.
  • Identifies capacity and performance issues to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of supported network hardware and related systems.
  • Analyzes complex networks to include planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and various protocol suites.
  • Reviews data and security infrastructure design, installation and maintenance for new and existing installations.
  • Installs and maintains various network infrastructures, including design, installation and maintenance for new and existing installations.
  • Manages daily service request workloads using various ticket management systems.
  • Provides mentoring activities for other team members. This may include leading various KT (knowledge transfer) training sessions.
  • Provides high-level technical support for configurations, troubleshooting, and service restoration while interfacing directly with equipment vendors and employees
  • Assists with testing and turn-up of new circuits and/or equipment, including cross-connects and related connectivity verification activities.
  • Uses various designated systems, software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose device health status and issues.
  • Supports the creation of and maintains departmental methods of procedure (MOPs) and related documentation as needed.
  • Conducts / directs disaster recovery planning. Activities include network failover and recovery planning , detecting faults and minimizing outage downtimes.
  • Applies advanced Engineering and network principles, theories, concepts and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Required - 5 - 8 years experience supporting IP networks with 2 of those years focused on network security.
Required - Ability to work collaboratively with a large technical support team
Required - Ability to self-manage assigned job role responsibilities to achieve desired performance results.
Required - Proficiency in written & verbal communication. Demonstrates prior experience interacting with customers and other technical teams.
Required - Experience in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Proficiency with presentations to technical and non-technical audiences; must be able to translate technical terms and concepts to non-technical entities.
Required - Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a rapidly changing work environment.
Required - Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues related to their support roles. (Route/Switch, Security, etc.)
Preferred - NGFW firewall configuration and management (Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc) experience.
Preferred - Proficiency in high-level support of Juniper SRX, EX and MX series hardware and OS.
Preferred - Cisco ASR, ASA, and/or Nexus experience
Preferred - Experience with one of the following: L3VPN, L2TP, VRF-Lite, mBGP, and/or VRF Routing
Preferred - Experience with HIPPA, Sarbanes Oxley, PCI, and/or DoD Compliance and Audit requirements.
Preferred - F5 Proxy Load Balancer Experience.
