This announcement is for a five-year contract beginning in August 2019. Pay range is $150-180K depending on experience. There is a potential for remote work. Travel to and from work site option available with all travel expenses covered.
POSITION TITLE: OpenStack Engineer
Full time (40 hours a week)
LOCATION: Fort Gordon (Augusta), GA
Position Description: Serves as an OpenStack Engineer supporting the U.S. Army Cyber School's Virtual Training Area (VTA).
Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a favorable Top Secrect (SCI) Clearance.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have 3-5 years of experience with OpenStack installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Must have at least 1 years’ experience working on a large OpenStack deployment (>100 physical compute nodes, >10,000 cores)
  • Must have 1-3 years of experience with Ceph installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be an active participant in the OpenStack community through contributing code, filing bug reports, writing documentation, or in some other recognized capacity.
  • Must have the ability to work with, train, and guide others in the installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of OpenStack and Ceph.
  • Must have experience in sizing, optimizing, and deploying the hardware required to run Ceph and OpenStack.
  • Must be comfortable with the concept of software defined networking, particularly as related to the various ml2 neutron plugins, leveraging version control and configuration management to configure network devices, and the underlay/overlay networking model.
  • Must be willing to travel to and participate in OpenStack Summits worldwide.
  • Must be familiar with DevOps business practices particularly with regards to applying the software development lifecycle to system management (github flow, CI/CD, etc.).
  • Must be familiar with git as a documentation repository and saltstack, ansible, puppet, chef, or stackstorm as a system management and configuration tool. Saltstack experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Must have the requisite experience in python to debug stack traces in the various OpenStack projects and assist in filing bug reports upstream if necessary.
Duties:
Serves as a member of the U.S. Army Cyber School's Virtual Training Area (VTA) team providing technical services supporting official course materials and individual distance learning.
  • Work with other Secure VTA (S-VTA) / VTA personnel. These personnel may be government or other contract personnel.
  • Plan and develop the operation and maintenance of the S-VTA/VTA
  • Install, operate, and maintain the S-VTA/VTA.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of classrooms workstations via a version control system.
  • Identify and validate VTA hardware selection and architecture for upgrades and future enhancements.
  • Support S-VTA/VTA via updates, maintenance, expansion, and configuration changes. This includes all applicable S-VTA/VTA sub-systems (OpenStack, git, salt, registration and internal tools utilized)
  • Support the S-VTA/VTA accreditation process (Risk Mitigation Framework) by designing and implementing system modifications as appropriate.
  • Create system documentation for the system as whole, subsystems and Risk Mitigation Framework.
  • Serve as member of VTA Configuration Control Board (CCB), or in other required position(s) as deemed appropriate.
  • Provide end-user support; this includes but is not limited to troubleshooting deployment issues, environment race conditions, login issues, debugging Application Programming Interface request etc.
  • Provide training and support to course managers on the use of glance, heat, horizon, and other applicable projects IOT allow them to create their own course environments.
  • Control S-VTA/VTA environment with configuration management tools (e.g. SaltStack).
  • Maintain environment configuration information with a git-based version control system.
  • Validate security architecture of VTA.
  • Participate in Interim Process Reviews and Configuration Control Boards as appropriate.
  • Implement and maintain the security posture of the VTA to include but not limited to Vulnerability
  • Travel as appropriate to conferences which will enhance S-VTA/VTA operation and maintenance.
