Linux Systems Administrator / Linux Engineer : Apache and Puppet skills needed.

My Higher Educational client based in London is seeking a dynamic, hands-on and technically astute Linux Systems Administrator / Linux Engineer with strong skills in Linux, Apache and Puppet. ANY Tomcat and as many of the following OPENLDAP, Web Hosting, GIT, Puppet, Bash Scripting, SHIBBOLETH, F5 ARE ABONUS BUT NOT ESSENTIAL.

You will be part of the Platform Integration team which is primarily concerned with installation and maintenance of a large number of infrastructure services and software technologies delivering web-based services, DNS, directory, authentication, monitoring and configuration management services, in addition to some infrastructure underpinning e-mail services. STRONG SKILLS IN LINUX, PUPPET AND APACHE NEEDED.

As Linux Systems Administrator / Linux Engineer, you will provide specialist technical leadership in creating, securing, and administering infrastructural computer based technologies that underpin robust state-of-the IT services for enterprise wide and smaller, specialised user communities that are both internal and external to the college, and operating within an ITIL service management framework.

You must have strong skills in Linux, Apache AND Puppet. Any Tomcat and as many of the following OPENLDAP, Web Hosting, GIT, Puppet, Bash Scripting, SHIBBOLETH, F5 a bonus but not essential.

Other duties will include:

  • Perform general systems installation, administration, and maintenance of central infrastructure and other more specialised systems, in increasingly virtualised environments.

  • Work collaboratively across departmental groups to increase understanding and to improve service provision.

  • Follow group working practices (e.g. for systems installation) and standard ITIL processes such as problem and change management.

  • Develop scripts and small programs to automate system management tasks and data manipulation.

Technical skills and experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of administering Linux based server operating systems in a service environment, especially administering web services with experience of Apache, Tomcat.

  • Practical knowledge of implementing DevOps deployment pipeline and the adoption of services in to it

  • Strong skills in Linux, Apache and Puppet. ANY Tomcat and as many of the following OPENLDAP, Web Hosting, GIT, Puppet, Bash Scripting, SHIBBOLETH, F5 A BONUS.

  • Practical knowledge of Directory Authentication technologies, especially Active Directory.

  • A strong ability in writing shell scripts and/or small utility programs, (e.g. Unix Shell, Python, PHP, C or PERL).

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the principles of TCP/IP networking, including familiarity with common Internet protocols (e.g. DNS, HTTP, SMTP, LDAP, SFTP/SSH, etc.) and associated client and server software.

This is an initial 6 month contract based in London and is paying a rate of £400/day Umbrella company basis only. This role has been deemed Inside IR35
