Lead Project Engineer (Remote Access Solutions)

This is a long-term contract opportunity in Sunny California with one of our large public sector clients. They are in need of a Consultant to serve as the lead project engineer for the Secure Socket Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) migration project and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) remote access for the client’s Cyber Governance and Operations (CGO) Section, under the Cyber Engineering Division.

The VPN migration project encompasses the roll-out of new SSL VPN portals to replace a mission-critical remote access environment servicing over 35 departments. The Consultant shall also work on identify necessary design changes to the overall remote access architecture and develop plans, proposals and appropriate implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review the design of the client's remote access environment, including Pulse Secure SSL VPN and ZPA.
  • Make recommendations for improvements for deployment within their information technology environment.
  • Deploy new Pulse Secure SSL VPN and ZPA environments including the configuration of all resource profiles and policies, user realms and roles, sign-in pages and policies, access policy, and delegated administration privileges.
  • Migration of the client’s remote access solution leveraging Microsoft Azure multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Work with customer departments to address changes affecting their remote access user experience or their delegated administrative access, specifically for Pulse Secure SSL VPN and ZPA.
  • Identify necessary design changes to the overall remote access architecture and develop action plan, proposal and coordinate with customer departments to develop appropriate timeline implementation.
  • Provide daily support for all remote access and system configuration issues. Handle all aspects of user support, system code upgrade/maintenance, bug fixes, and troubleshooting of the new Pulse Secure SSL VPN and ZPA environments.
  • Work with customer department to migrate public-facing web sites from on-premise servers and VMs to the public cloud and place behind cloud-based Imperva Web Application Firewall (WAF) protection.
  • Provide daily support for the Imperva Web Application Firewall (WAF) configurations. Handle all aspects of user support, system code upgrade/maintenance, bug fixes and Imperva Web Application Firewall (WAF) related troubleshooting.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and/or training to in house staff members or delegated administrators from customer departments.
  • Provide after-hours or weekend support on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in the last three (3) years managing and supporting a production Juniper Secure Access (SA or MAG Series) or Pulse Secure SSL VPN clustered environment and working with end-users to troubleshoot and resolve remote access issues.
  • One (1) year of experience in the last three (3) years managing and supporting Imperva WAF Gateway appliances and Imperva Cloud WAF in a high availability and complex environment that spans multiple physical data centers and multiple hybrid cloud providers.
  • One (1) year of experience in the last three (3) years demonstrated experience on moving production workloads to the hybrid-cloud, public cloud such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • One (1) year of experience in the last three (3) years managing and supporting a zScaler Private Access or zScaler Internet Access clustered environment that supports 2,000 or more users.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the last four (4) years as a systems administrator or network engineer supporting a network environment with at least 30 servers, 2,000 or more users and multiple firewalls, switches, and routers. The network environment must consist of multiple VLANs in a single location and multiple physical locations connected through routers or similar layer-3 routing devices.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the last three (3) years leading a project for a company with more than 2,000 employees.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the last five (5) years in developing clear and precise process, workflow, and/or network diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the last five (5) years in developing formal information technology-related documents such as operating procedures/guidelines, incident reports, technology standards, and knowledge base articles.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years in mentoring or leading lower-level technical staff.
