Role:  

My large construction client require a Lead Power BI Developer to join them on a 3-6 months initial contract based in Huntingdon, Peterborough.

This is a greenfield project where you will act as the Lead Power BI Developer responsible for building reports and dashboards to provide crucial performance data to support the organisation to achieve its key strategic priorities.

You will be a great communicator, pro-active and able to ensure that reporting is accurate, credible and meets the stakeholder’s requirements.

You will have a proven track-record of the implementation of reports and dash boards using databases and integrating data from multiple sources in order to provide central reporting services.

The Business Intelligence Developer ( SQL Server / Power BI / DAX ) will have the following further responsibilities:

As the Business Intelligence Developer ( SQL Server / Power BI / DAX ), you will be responsible for both new and BAU report writing.
Work with stakeholders and team members to develop report specification, determine appropriate technical solutions.
Performing data analysis and data validation to ensure accurate reporting results.

  • Working closely with client data team to pinpoint data owners, data sources, available APIs, and quality of data
  • Creating a data map laying out all of the findings and establishing which metrics will sit within which measures
  • Creating a final dashboard recommendation document for phase 1 as well as future phases where possible, including; confirmed viable data sources, metrics to pull from each source, KPIs and benchmarks, manual vs API data access upload schedule, scamps for design
  • Creating a Scoping Document for future phases (excluding phase 1) to include; next data sources to be added to the dashboard (and when), any APIs which will need to be accessed, costs of accessing them, timelines, client resources required

This is an exciting time to join their BI team as the business has just launched an exciting new brand and are re-engineering their game-changing software product from scratch.

You will be a key member of a fast-growing and equally technical and commercial BI team.

You will use your strong background in technical analytics and commercial/business analysis to interpret large data sets and provide actionable insights to stakeholders across the business.

You will also be part of the following:

  • Work with stakeholders to construct models which assess the viability of new pilots or products.
  • Perform data 'deep-dives' on areas of the business to deliver insights & recommendations.
  • Present potential actions based upon your analysis to the business.
  • Produce dashboards based on analysis to display findings and track performance.
  • Generate complex reports for senior business owners.
  • Work in partnership with the BI developers in your team to constantly improve the data infrastructure.
  • Use a combination of Power BI / SSAS Cubes / SQL / Excel to analyse data effectively, and providing consultative insights to the business.
  • Ideally, you will be able to use R or Python to develop more sophisticated models and analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

You must have both excellent technical skills and commercial/business analysis.

They do not seek a pure 'techie', but someone who can also improve how the business is run, be proactive with their work and make commercial suggestions to the business.

  • Consultative and able to manage stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Knowledge of SQL and Excel is essential. Experience with Python, R or even SAS (with cross-training) is advantageous.
