Job Summary

Working as part of a service specialist team, the post holder will be responsible for support and maintenance of SECAMB's data and voice Infrastructure.

Managing the daily operation of the Network Infrastructure across the constituent Localities within the Trust, ensuring service continuity and system security for clinical and business critical systems. This includes reconfiguring, developing and updating existing systems using research methodology. For example, constant testing of equipment and regularly adapting the equipment/topology to meet new requirements, to maintain the operational effectiveness of the Trust.

Research, propose and manage policy and service changes, advise, recommend and initiate solutions. This will involve developing solutions to improve services, reduce costs, ensuring business continuity across the Trusts clinical and non-clinical services.

Organise and prioritise own workload, to include coordinating junior Technicians in the fulfilment of daily and project work. The post holder will have experience of working within large scale projects, and have an awareness of ITIL practices. Proactive engagement with fellow senior Technicians. Where appropriate to train junior Technicians in own specialisation. Supporting the Network and Server Specialists, and with the ability to confidently step into the role of either as required.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure that the SECAmb management is adequately supported in the information technology aspect of planning, procurement, implementation and maintenance of new and existing systems
Diagnose complex Network Domain issues and take ownership of these issues, and progress them to successful resolution.
Install new Server room racks, and install both Network and Server equipment in those Racks using excellent methodology, and document.
Provide additional Server knowledge to the Network team and liaise with the Server specialists to ensure excellent inter team communication, ultimately ensuring professional installations.
Adhere to Change Control Procedures ensuring that impact of policy or system changes are managed effectively across Locality user base.
Ensure all departmental policies and procedures are followed. Update Standard Operating Procedures when operational changes are made to systems within post holder's area of responsibility.
Plan and manage routine changes/upgrades and respond proactively to unexpected system faults/failures.
Provide second and third line support including incident/problem identification, resolution, root cause analysis, recommendations/action in line with local Service Level Agreements.
Ensure that an up to date inventory of all hardware and software is fully maintained and documented.
Liaise with third parties to resolve technical issues.
Actively maintain and monitor the Network using Trust SNMP monitoring
Ensure continuous availability of services across all sites through strong operational management and business continuity planning.
Ensuring mission critical systems are maintained to the highest level,
Perform and maintain backup of all Trust servers
Ensure all systems are updated with all tested service packs and updates where appropriate
Ensure all AV, Spam, Malware, etc. are defended against by keeping software and hardware systems tested and updated
Help produce documentation to support systems including change control logs
Guard against any security breeches
Provide advice and service development options which will improve existing services, deliver cost efficiency and take advantage of the latest technical solutions.

Undertake any other tasks as delegated by the Head of IT, both in the short and long-term which are commensurate with the seniority of the post
Attend national and local IT meetings as appropriate

GENERAL
The post holder will report to the Network Manager and will work to agreed objectives for the service. There will be regular reviews and monitoring meetings, work will be managed rather than supervised.
Special Conditions
The post holder must be prepared to travel to meetings off site and to other locations. He/she should therefore possess a current valid driving licence.
There may also be a requirement on occasion to undertake some evening and weekend work.
Work Complexit
He/she will be expected to analyse, compare and contrast information, where there are a range of options, to draw out that which is most relevant in order to form an overall view of a situation or event. The options open will usually be clear, once the full information is presented for evaluation.
The job consists of varied tasks requiring some flexibility of mind and personal organisation to determine priorities and handle more than one issue at a time.
