Your new company

Our client is a large research facility that invests over £2 Billion every year into departments and organisations that cover the entire research spectrum, from medical and biological sciences to astronomy, physics and environmental sciences. Right now, they require an interim UI Designer to work within our digital services team to develop designs based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes.

Your new role
You will work out the best way to let users interact with services, in terms of both overall flow and at the level of individual design elements. Working as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, you will be expected to liaise with the technical team, service owners and external contractors seeking to meet the GOV.UK service standard. You will create and present evidence-based prototypes and designs for your GDS compliant digital service,
championing user-centred design principles to best practice within our organisation. You will balance user needs, technical complexity and risk in order to support the prioritisation of product roadmaps whilst applying expertise in Government Digital Service user research design patterns and standards, keeping regular contact with key stakeholders in government to build good working relationships.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have experience in delivering Discovery and Design phases in multi-stakeholder environments using a range of research methodologies to inform the best possible outcomes. You will have a proven track record of producing high quality UX outputs such as personas, user journeys, user flows, wireframes, mock-ups, designs, and prototypes. You will have collaborated within an Agile environment, balancing user needs, business requirements and technical constraints. Strong communication skills, the ability to listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them clearly for both audiences whilst also managing stakeholder expectations will lead to your success in this role.
