Seeking Graphics Designer

A progressive Raleigh-based consulting firm is seeking a part-time Graphics and Instructional Designer. We are a rapidly growing company with a need for a creative, energetic and talented individual with formal training in graphics production and desktop publishing to produce training materials and other supporting documents.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Graphic Design

  • Formulate and create designs, concepts, and layouts based on knowledge of layout and aesthetic design principles
  • Work with consultants and clients to determine layout design; prepare drafts and samples as necessary to communicate concepts
  • Develop graphic layouts for print materials, product illustrations, company logos, Internet websites, and other materials as needed
  • Provide graphic support to clients for the production of logos, artwork, and other creative concepts
  • Implement knowledge of art elements, text font style and size, and computer and special effects techniques to create visually appealing, engaging, and effective design deliverables
  • Prepare notes and instructions for printer regarding final layout and assembly of materials
  • Review final layouts and make corrections as needed
  • Provides graphic support to web designer
  • Utilize graphic and desktop publishing computer software, digital images, and other tools and elements, as needed, to accomplish design tasks

Instructional Design

  • Plan overall instructional flow of training programs and ensure associated curricula is delivered in a clear and easily-understood format
  • Research, evaluate, and make recommendations on training curricula, instructional methods, and materials
  • Assist staff in developing instructional materials –including job aids, workbooks, and manuals – to be used by both client and internal training instructors
  • Develop classroom-based and distance learning training courses for use by client and internal personnel
  • Work with subject matter experts – including office personnel, consultants, clients, training committees, and advisory groups – to define content for inclusion in training materials
  • Organize the production and design of training materials
  • Ensure curricula and materials meet the needs of the intended audience
  • Recommend, order, and/or authorize the purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids to meet training curricula requirements
  • Develop tests, questionnaires, and procedures that measure the effectiveness of the curricula, and use this input to make adjustments to materials as necessary
  • Advise consultants and office staff in curriculum development, use of materials and equipment, and implementation of procedures
  • Conduct and/or participate in workshops, conferences, and committees designed to enhance instructional design skills or promote learning for training participants
  • Facilitate the development of Process Flow Diagrams and Process Guides
  • Aid clients in the production of Single-Point Lesson Plans

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in graphic development
  • Ideal candidate will have some instructional design experience—this is not mandatory—but a plus
  • Artistic talent, creativity, imagination, and skill and the ability to translate these to tangible deliverables
  • An AAS Degree in Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, or other related field preferred, or working of second year of degree
  • Above average skills in the use of Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint, Photoshop or equivalent software
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to apply creative thinking, problem solving, and critical thinking in the execution of his/her duties
  • Ability to quickly comprehend and synthesize content and convert it to an instructional format or design concept
  • Solid verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate a professional image to clients and co-workers and build positive working relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities while maintaining effectiveness
  • Strong organization skills, time management skills, attention to detail, and an appropriate sense of urgency
  • Ability to apply problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills in situations where they are required

This is a part-time role. Hours may flex up and down based on demand.

Salary range is $15-$25 an hour based on experience and qualifications
