GRAPHIC DESIGNER – Employment Contract

Marketing Department

Hourly Rate $40.00 – Project Based – Remote Work

JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction, plans, develops, and creates graphic design materials for print and web, including fliers, brochures, visual displays, promotional items, signs, bus inserts, forms, logos, charts, maps, and other printed or graphic design materials; writes or obtains and edits content from a variety of sources; coordinates the reproduction and distribution of printed or graphic materials; creates public information displays; route schedules and other passenger information materials, and performs related duties as assigned. Designs quarterly newsletter. Designs award applications as needed. Assists in creating all in-house rewards. Helps proactively communicate information and messages to the public and customers, to promote RTD and educate audiences regarding RTD’s programs, activities, and initiatives. Works with other RTD departments in the preparation of graphic materials, as needed. This employment contract position will project based and will work remotely. Employee shall perform work using own computer equipment with the necessary applications to complete work. There are no benefits associated with this position, unless required by law. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Plans, develops and creates graphic design materials, including newsletters, fliers, brochures, visual displays, signs, advertisements, forms, logos, charts, maps and other printed or graphic design materials; writes or obtains and edits content from a variety of sources; coordinates the reproduction and distribution of printed or graphic materials; creates public information displays.

Assists or participates in developing and implementing marketing and public information strategies and plans, as well as campaign or project-specific strategies and plans to meet designated goals and objectives.

As directed, assists in advertisements and media development and coordinates placement, including negotiating price; records and tracks payments.

Manages, facilitates and monitors development and maintenance of RTD's website; reviews all aspects of website, including navigation, creative and content components and makes recommendations for improvement; supervises and monitors website updates and maintenance.

Performs research necessary to effectively carry out job responsibilities; plans and conducts various research projects; works with staff from other departments, committees and vendors as required by project assignments.

Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in marketing, graphic design, public relations, communications, or a closely related field is preferred.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid California Class C driver's license

Must submit portfolio of sample work for review

KNOWLEDGE:

Principles and techniques of graphic design, writing, and business communications including typography, photography, editing, and production; personal computer applications (including MS Office Suite) and desktop publishing applications for print and web, website page creation and editing, including advanced design work (including Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier); knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Dreamweaver, HTML and Wordpress is a plus; knowledge of the use of social media and other online channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, SnapChat, a plus. Principles and practices of business communication, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and excellent written communications.

Plan, develop, and create graphic materials, including fliers, brochures, visual displays, promotional items, signs, advertisements, forms, logos, charts, maps and other printed/graphic materials; write or obtain and edit content from a variety of sources; coordinate the reproduction and distribution of printed/graphic materials; create a public information display; communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively – visual, written, and spoken; analyze and interpret data and information and make sound recommendations; exercise critical thinking and independent judgment; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; and maintain accurate and complete documentation, files and records, and excellent follow-up required.
