A leading travel organisation based in London is seeking an experienced, smart and self-motivated Full-stack Software Development Engineer who has strong Java experience, on a 12 month contract.
You will be developing a market leading, customer facing web application, solving hard problems at scale and contributing to mission-critical software with a direct impact on the bottom line.
Your Responsibilities:
- Architect, design and implement scalable server-side solutions using Java
- Write highly optimised front-end code using HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Write unit, automation and integration tests
- Implement quality application logging for operational monitoring at scale
- Investigate, debug and resolve production site issues
- Identify and take ownership of technical initiatives
- Act as a role model to junior engineers and assist with coaching
- Ensure platform integrity and stability by performing peer code reviews
- Influence high level technical decision making and direction setting
- Work closely with engineering, program and product management functions to define and articulate technical project requirements
- Work with co-located and geographically distributed teammates to deliver on common goals
Required Skills & Experience:
- Professional experience in enterprise Java software development using Spring MVC frameworks, RESTful APIs and SOA
- Strong proficiency in HTML/CSS and strong JavaScript experience
- Experience with UI automated tests (Cucumber or Scala experience would be a plus)
- Excellent understanding of design patterns and CI/CD principles
- Be a Clean Code practitioner
- First class communication skills in written and verbal form
- Outstanding problem-solving skills
- A commitment to producing high quality code with an attention to detail
- Dedication and a self-motivated desire to learn
- A collaborative, team-oriented attitude
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Version control systems (Git/Github or Perforce would be a plus)
- Modern languages (Kotlin, Typescript)
- Modern frameworks (React, GraphQL, LESS)
- Template engines (Freemarker, Handlebars, Velocity)
- Experience working in the Cloud (AWS) with experience of migrating to a microservices architecture a considerable plus
- API development experience
- Devops experience
- Exposure to monitoring tools such as Splunk
- E-commerce or technical Travel Industry experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computing related discipline
