** We will be at VueConf Austin on March 3rd and 4th! Come see us!

We...

  • ...are a company by and for people who make things: developers and designers
  • ...are a small but stable company with a 17-year track record in the youth sports, education, and non-profit space
  • ... are going through a well-deserved period of growth and evolution (which is where you come in!)
  • ...are a virtual / remote office, but based in Austin, TX (and currently looking primarily in that area)
  • ...are accessible, personable, approachable: There is no middle management and there are not many meetings. We're always available on Slack to help each other out, but if you prefer somebody managing you every day, we're probably not a good fit!
  • ..are Vue neophytes: We're a bunch of back-end developers used to traditional request/response architecture. We are re-building our applications, learning Vue, and you'll help us get there. Until then ... we will write your APIs all day long!

It's definitely the case that you...

  • ... reside in Central Texas, or plan on doing so. We may open this posting up to a larger geographical area later on, but please, don't apply if you aren't in Central Texas. (If we do open it up, it will still be US Only; sorry about that!)
  • ...are a Javascript / Front End Developer with most or all of that time working with VueJS
  • ...are comfortable working with INFRASTRUCTURE (Gitlab, Slack) but don't need a lot of STRUCTURE (management)
  • ...are comfortable with components, routing, application state, and most importantly, you aren't afraid to find resources in the community when you don't have the answer
  • ...are comfortable explaining for the 4th time about parent -- > child communication and an event bus to poor, benighted server-side developers
  • ... don't mind working with our customers to gather requirements and feedback, and occasionally provide support through our issue tracker
  • ... are comfortable working with and customizing CSS frameworks -- SCSS, postCSS, et cetera.

It would be helpful if you...

  • ... have a college degree
  • ... are familiar with the Tailwind CSS Framework
  • ... are familiar with jQuery/Bootstrap, such that you could convert a server-side view written with these to Vue components
  • ... are comfortable not only writing tests for your work, but showing those poor, benighted server-side developers how to do so (since they're used to their server-side testing framework!)
  • ... are comfortable working with webpack and basic environment-specific deployment pipelines
  • ... have experience with Quasar
  • ... have basic familiarity with Docker

It's not at all necessary, but we would think it was cool if...

  • You have experience with Linux system administration, particularly with Docker Swarm and the Docker build process (this isn't an infrastructure/DevOps position and you don't need this; we really would just think it was cool)
  • You've ever written MODERN Coldfusion (Lucee), or know somebody who has
  • You have familiarity with either youth sports organizations or charter schools

Job Details: Hours, Pay, Perks

We're looking for a long-term relationship with the right person, whether that's a full-time, W2 employee or a freelancer with other clients. You tell us what you want, and if you're the right fit, we'll make it work.

There are advantages and disadvantages to working for a small company in the nonprofit space.

  • We're not a startup that will run out of money in six months, but we're not a huge corporation with deep pockets.
  • The biggest advantage is that we have a lot of flexibility to accommodate what you want for your life, your career, and your schedule. We all have lives and want you to as well.
  • Pay and growth opportunities are competitive, but we're not Facebook or Intel, and we never will be.
  • There's no 'anonymous team member hides behind the work of others.' If you're stuck, reach out and we'll help you (or find someone who can!); everybody has days that are more productive than others, but ultimately you are a key component in a small and well-oiled machine, and you're expected not only to work on what's assigned but to find work that needs doing.
  • We invest in your development: everybody at our company attends at least one conference a year (two, this year!) and you can often find us presenting at them, too!
  • Perks (Contractors): We will respect your schedule and commitments to clients who aren't us.We'll also provide a bedrock commitment of hours per month to help stabilize your business.
  • Perks (Employees): Profit-sharing, 401(k) with a fixed employer contribution of 3% whether or not you contribute anything, "When You Want It Or Need It" Paid Time Off. Healthcare: Please note that, while inLeague does not currently provide health insurance, this is due to the difficulty of a small and distributed company making insurance options available to its employees. We are actively working on it and the addition of a new Texas employee will open up some new possibilities. Nonetheless, we have to be up front about the fact that we have no healthcare benefits right now.

We are open to a variety of arrangements to suit the right person. A couple of example scenarios:

  • Scenario 1 (Contract to Hire): Prefer regular hours and wages? After a 60-day trial on contract, we can bring you aboard full-time, with benefits (above)
  • Scenario 2 (Regular freelancing): Do you have a stable of clients already and want to add a bedrock client? While we need a decent time commitment, we're happy to accommodate an experienced developer with other obligations.

So what does it pay, already?!

We've never hired a dedicated, front-end developer before, and frankly the market data available to us suggests a huge range for an intermediate-level hire ($60k - $100k!). It also depends on whether you want to be an employee with benefits or if we're paying a contractor by the hour.

We think that, for the experience we need, we're certainly not going to be on the low end of that scale. Tell us what you want and we'll take you seriously. If we can, we'll update the job to indicate a range, but as we're still (as of late February) a month out from hiring, we'd rather be honest about what we know and where we are than have to change something as important as pay on our listing.
