Job Overview
In this role you will be the leading engineer in an Agile squad, ultimately responsible for the engineering quality, design, implementation and operation of your product. You’ll work with business partners, engineers, data scientists, and UX designers to design, implement, test, deliver, document, and maintain complex applications, tools, systems and services. You will work with product managers in analysing business metrics and functional requirements, and translate them into robust and scalable technical solutions. You will work with cutting-edge technologies and processes and develop well rounded skills such as data analysis, leadership and effective programme management.
Key Responsibilities
• You will have significant input into user experience design and will set the technical strategy for your team; creating architecture, and solving problems for the long term business through best practice approaches to operational excellence, rapid time-to-market delivery, and a frugal total cost of ownership.
• You are a sought-after domain expert in your area and your technical influence spans multiple teams.
• You own and are hands on with the full development lifecycle of a system from insight and design through development, review, testing, integration, deployment and operations.
• You have a deep understanding of the business drivers that make your products and services successful and how your software contributes to that success. You use this understanding to influence product decisions and to make delivery trade-offs that maximise customer value.
• You diagnose, mitigate and root cause live issues on production solutions and are responsible for their uptime and reliability.
• You drive successful delivery of the team’s product across the organisation and with external partners to design solutions, coordinate development, identify and resolve issues and arbitrate disputes.
• You drive constant improvement in best practices, design and innovation across multiple teams within your organisation.
• You actively participate in the career development of others through meticulous code/design reviews, mentorship, and effective delegation.
• You participate in projects that involve multiple teams within your area of the Digital org and that address issues outside your normal areas of responsibility or expertise. You influence the technical vision for your department through discussions with peers and senior management.
Experience and personal attributes
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern application framework or library, such as Angular, or React.
• Consumer background
• Deep understanding of Agile and DevOps and ability to inspire teams around these delivery models.
• A deep understanding of design patterns, object-oriented design, data structures and algorithms.
• A track record of introducing new processes that improved software quality and/or reduced operational load.
• Hands on expertise in disparate technologies such as cloud computing, native device development, CMS solutions, service-oriented architecture, user interface development, or machine learning.
• Proven evangelism of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations.
• BSc/MSc in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 5 years minimum experience with Front End technologies
• Strong JavaScript, Angular and with a Python or Java background
• Experience in DevOps and with DevOps tooling
• Successfully mentored and promoted software engineers and testers.
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy.
