Freelance Web Designer (Remote)

The Refugee and Immigrant Center-Asian Association of Utah (RIC-AAU) was founded in 1977 and is a private, non-profit, community-based organization located in Salt Lake City. Originally established to support Asian immigrants and refugees in their transition to life in the United States, the organization has expanded its resources and services over the past four decades to assist refugees and immigrants from around the world. Today, we serve over 2,000 refugees, immigrants, and other community members each year. The mission of RIC-AAU is to improve quality of life for refugees and immigrants in Utah. We believe in empowering individuals by teaching them the skills they need to lead prosperous lives.

About you

We are looking for a freelance web designer to help our Development and Outreach team increase the agency’s brand awareness, specifically by building out and maintaining our website. There may be some smaller design projects as needed. We need someone that is a self-starter, detail oriented, and highly motivated, that stays on top of deadlines and demonstrates timely and consistent communication while working on projects.

Responsibilities

• Managing and updating our WordPress back-end
• The ability to meet with team members and clients to discuss projects – telecommuting or in person
• Responsive website design expertise
• Candidate must have a strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards
• Intermediate expertise and hands on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and API’s.
• Collaboration skills and design direction
• The position requires timely communication with colleagues and adherence to deadlines
• Create design projects as needed
• Maintain brand
• Address technical issues quickly
• Submit deliverables within the agreed upon deadline and budget

Skills and Qualifications

• Strong understanding of WordPress development (custom theme development is a plus)
• A sharp eye for aesthetic and design that works in tandem with functionality
• A design philosophy that values clarity and usability but does not sacrifice aesthetic
• In-depth knowledge of UI / UX principles (formal training preferred)
• Clear communication and strong responsiveness ideal for remote work
• Commitment to meeting project responsibilities in a timely manner
• Attention to detail
• Ability to advise and provide valuable input
• Meeting project deadlines and communicating with team members
• Creative project examples or portfolio
• Experience working with WordPress, WordPress plug-ins, and Adobe Creative Suite
• Keen ability to multi-task, self-starter with the initiative to address problems and find solutions

Bonuses:

• Experience working with e-commerce platforms a plus
• Experience with Google Analytics and/or AdWords
• Degree would be nice but not required, we’re more interested in what you can do

Compensation: $30/hour
