A number of projects have been created to deliver specific areas of the technical solution which consists of a deployed hosting platform which will host all services required by MoD formations in the deployed environment and a bespoke Orchestration solution to allow instances of this platform to be created rapidly using automation.

The Technical Project Manager role is essential to the ongoing development and evolution of the NSoIT(D) solution.

  • Prepare and maintain schedules of activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements
  • Identify and monitor project risks (threats and opportunities) planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect products
  • Manage the consolidation and documenting of the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities, issues and quality requirements)
  • Prepare, gaining approval of, refining and updating business cases that justify projects in terms of benefits, costs and risks
  • Identify, defining, evaluating, planning, tracking and realising the business benefits of programmes/projects
  • Manage the monitoring and controlling financial aspects of each project
  • Manage the preparation and delivery of technical briefs, status reports, chairing meetings and taking minutes/notes
  • Establish and maintain governance arrangements for the delivery of projects, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities that align with organisation practice
  • Develop and manage teams, identifying, addressing and resolving differences between individuals and/or interest groups
  • Agree contracts for the provision of goods/services needed for projects monitoring compliance and managing variances
  • Identify capability gaps and recommend changes or enhancements in line with Agile and continuous improvement methodology.
  • Make use of exceptional communication skills to handle diverse and adverse audiences
  • Use strong critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems and propose new ideas.

Experience required:

Essentials Skills:

  • Knowledge of project management techniques and recent experience in leading infrastructure delivery projects
  • A recognised project management methodology such as PRINCE2/APMP/MSP • Agile Delivery projects.
  • Delivering secure solutions based on Microsoft Windows and additional Microsoft based technologies such as Exchange, Skype, SQL and Group Policy.
  • Solutions using Government Grade Cryptography Provisioning and Management
  • Experience with the Atlassian Toolset – JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket for delivering Agile based projects
  • Exceptional communication skills with diverse and adverse audiences - Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to identify risks associated with business processes, operations, information security programs and technology projects.

Desirable Skills:

  • Capable Office Automation User
  • Detailed knowledge of the NSOIT(D) Programme and its Projects
  • Have a good understanding from a technical perspective of military deployed CIS and associated CIS Infrastructure, especially in the maritime environment.
  • Managing IS/IT Project Delivery, including to the UK Military.
  • Have proven experience of working within the UK MoD as a Project Manager or as a MOD Specialist Engineering Subject Matter Expert for the delivery of IS/IT

Qualification required:

  • A recognised project management methodology such as PRINCE2/APMP/MSP
  • Experience with the Atlassian Toolset – JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket for delivering Agile based projects. Should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and knowledge in a project management environment and working knowledge of the following areas

  • Resource Management;
  • Budget and Cost Management;
  • Risk and Issue Management;
  • Quality Management;
  • Governance;
  • Stakeholder Management

Pay Rate: £450 - £563 per day pay range, subject to IR35 status

This is a temporary, but possibly long term role.

Anticipated Length of Assignment: All of our roles are technically temporary, though opening assignments can be and often are, extended by clients on a longer term basis and can sometimes become permanent. This opening assignment is for 12 months.

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
