Data Analyst / ETL Developer to design and build data tables and blended data views within a MS Azure data warehousing environment, leveraging Azure Data Factory to extract data from multiple different database systems into Azure data blobs, and make available to business analysts via Snowflake and MS SQL databases. Responsible for planning, installing, configuring and administering databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long and short-range requirements, operational guidelines, performance monitoring, database tuning, identification and correction of performance bottlenecks, security and integrity controls, and logical-physical database design. This role is collaborative in nature, working closely with IT and multiple business teams inside and outside of the organization to support Business Intelligence dashboard solutions that help managers and executives make strategic and tactical business decisions.
Essential Functions:
- Consult with data management teams to get a big-picture idea of the company’s data storage and transformational needs.
- Read, analyze and digest what a business wants to accomplish with its data, and design the best possible ETL process around those goals
- Elicit data requirements from analysts, management, and users.
- Design and create data warehouse tables and views, and all related extraction, transformation and load of data functions in cloud and on-premise environments.
- Develop necessary database elements and collaborate with I/T or other data providers to obtain the data in an automated fashion.
- Document tables and transformations in data dictionary.
- Conduct preliminary testing of solutions before data is extracted to ensure accuracy and completeness of data flows.
- Test solutions for accuracy and completeness once all the data has been transferred.
- Tune data processing to optimize performance.
- Provide maintenance support on all delivered solutions, troubleshooting issues as required.
- Coordinate with data teams in other organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics/Statistics, or related field with at least 3 years relevant experience
- Technically capable with coding languages commonly used in ETL development such as SQL, Java, XML
- Ability to translate data-related requirements into innovative solutions, drawing on prior education and experience, standard procedures, and basic analysis, including manipulating and interpreting large data sets to provide solutions
- Understand data warehouse architecture techniques such as EDW, ODS, DM, ROLAP and MOLAP
- Experienced in data modeling
- Experience troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems
- Experience tracing data to source systems (sometimes many source systems)
- Understanding of star and snowflake data schemas
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Understanding of MS Azure architecture, including blobs and MS Data Factory strongly preferred.
- Understanding of data integration with cloud database systems
- Understanding data needs of advanced analytics, rules-based and statistical analyses
- Understand the basics of the dashboards development lifecycle and industry best practices for reporting
- High level competency in Excel (macros, pivot tables, etc.) preferred, including the ability and willingness to reverse-engineer logic.
- Experience with Tableau or other similar analytics tools
- Familiarity with R and Python
- Ability to understand the big-picture view of a company's data situation
- Ability to learn new skills, adapt to changing environments and show attention to detail
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment yet remain focused on long-term organizational business process transformations goals
- Advanced organizational skills with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to comfortably adjust as priorities change
