HMRC is looking for a DevOps Engineer - Contract

This is a REMOTE 6 month initial contract INSIDE IR35


We need someone to start ASAP. This role is fully remote. The office base is one of Bristol or Leeds, if you were commutable to that office it would help in the future but not essential.


HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers.

We are undergoing a major transformation programme, which includes a major investment in digitisation. This means customers can do more for themselves online, in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones therefore we are establishing a team of outstanding people who will build and run these new and improved technology services.


As DevOps engineer you will be responsible for underpinning good development processes including managing tools and testing environments, central code control, maintaining development standards and writing software that automates systems. You will work as part of a cross-function agile development team to deliver automated software components that form part of a development operations toolchain, transform technical requirements into DevOps processes, build complex stories without additional support, manage live test environments and identify and resolve issues preventing delivery.  

 

Experience  

·       Essential experience developing using Kubernetes  

·       Experience working in a similar role in a DevOps or Continual Delivery environment 

·       Experience provisioning infrastructure as code (eg. Terraform & Ansible)  

·       Experience provisioning Jenkins & Docker  

·       Hands on experience with AWS essential, Azure desirable  

·       Proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure that the team’s plans and objectives are achieved.  

·       Working with backlog and defect tracking tools such as JIRA.  

·       Ability to work both individually and as an effective team member; and  

·       Ability to think on your feet and show initiative.  

 

Skills 

·       Availability and capacity management. Ability to manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.  

·       Development process optimisation. Understanding the importance of developing process efficiency and the common ways in which processes are optimised.  

·       Information security. Excellent information security skills, you can design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.  

·       Modern standards approach. Demonstrable understanding of important principles of modern standards approach and how they apply to the work you will undertake.  

·       Programming and build (software engineering). Highly collaborative role, you have experience reviewing specifications and using these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts using the right standards and tools.  

·       Prototyping. Ability to prototype within a team, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others. You can establish design patterns and iterate them  

·       Service support. Ability to identify, locate and fix faults.  

·       Systems design. Ability to translate logical designs into physical designs. You can produce detailed designs and document all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate. You can design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business, and technical complexity and meaningful impact.  

·       Systems integration. Ability to build and test simple interfaces between systems and can work on more complex integration as part of a wider team  

·       User focus. Ability to identify and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence. You can identify and define research that fits user needs. You know how to use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.
