Database Architect (Remote)

Under guidance of the Section Manager of the KIDS Application Development Section, this position performs advanced DB architecture work for Child Support Systems. The KIDS DB architect: recommends and maintains data management policy; provides expert technical leadership to the applications development and technical staff; installs and maintains software on multiple mainframe platforms; plans, tests installs and updates to software; coordinates software upgrades with system DBAs; and advises application development staff on the use of database software, database designs and data models, efficient data access, and is available for evening/weekend on-call duties. Well qualified candidates will have DBA experience with a large (1000+ programs, 400+table, 4+DB2/CICS environments or equivalent and distributed systems accessing DB2) Child Support system, or equivalent, using Platinum, ERWin, Mainview, ChangeMan. IBM Utilities, log analyzer tools, IBM Data Studio, CNTL-M or like tools; and significant IT related knowledge.
 
Comments:

5. This position is budgeted for 1960 hours annually. Hours will be prorated the first year based on start date.
6. DCF does not sponsor work visas, either at the time of hire or at any later date
7. In coordination with the “Safer At Home” guidelines, contracted staff will work with their manger to access work remotely as needed temporarily. However, contract staff will be required to return to the home office for regular business hours as restrictions allow.
8. Contract staff may be required to provide personal equipment for remote work while “Safer At Home” guidelines are in effect.
9. Selected candidate must provide copies of any/all certifications as part of the hiring process.

Supplier Question:  What does the HM want to see in candidates that all previous candidates lacked?  What specifically was missing in all the other candidates that made a repost necessary?
 
Answer:  It seems like one of the biggest things’ candidates are missing is no DB2 Z/OS experience or only had that experience from many years ago.  Besides DB2 Z/OS experience being a necessity, we are looking for a DBA with recent experience with performance monitoring, fine-tuning and evaluation of SQL queries, databases, and schemas.  Ability to create tables, indexes, and triggers.  Experience with disaster recovery. Those are the overall biggest things that some of the candidates didn’t show or only showed some of those things.
