Database Administrator
Contract: 6 months

Daily rate: £375
Overview:
Our client, a financial organisation has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Database Administrator for a period of 6 months. Our client is seeking a professional person who has proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably in the financial or insurance industry.
About the role:
DBA is responsible for the strong, organising, presenting, using and analysing data and database management software. The successful candidate will regularly perform routine tests and modifications to ensure that our client’s database is performing and running correctly. If a problem occurs, troubleshooting the programs and hardware will be required. Communication on any findings, repairs or changes with other administrators in the company will be required. The DBA is also responsible for managing the workload of the team and ensure the operational effectiveness of the team.
Requirements:
- Proactively monitors performance of database systems resources and query throughout.
- Optimize SQL Code as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain database storage resources.
- Monitor and maintain database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
- SQL Server Installation, Upgrades, Migrations and Configuration.
- Install database software service packs cumulative updates as necessary.
- Maintain database documentations as required.
- Maintain and administer database security access.
- Perform database ad-hoc backups and restores.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity issues.
- Follow Change Management processes to implement database configuration changes.
- Follow Problem Management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues.
- Proactively monitor and respond to MSSQL database alerts.
- On-call requirements to ensure 24x7 support of database operations if required.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience of administering SQL Server 2008/2012 databases.
- Experience with monitoring & diagnostic tools.
- Experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory and disk configurations.
- Customer service, communication, problem-solving and technical writing skills.
- Technical writing experience.
- 6 years’ experience as a database administrator in SQL Server environment.
- 4 years of SQL Server database development/programming.
- Speed and accuracy in troubleshooting issues.
- Strong data management skills.
- Strong prioritisation skills and ability to meet multiple concurrent deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Organised and good at time management.
- Results driven.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
